The three S's.

When autumn rolls around it's the perfect time to head back to the desert and focus on the three S's—solitude, sendiness, and snug fleeces. The North Face's Canyonlands Fleece Jacket has you covered for at least two out of the three. Soft brushed fleece lies on the inside to keep you warm on early morning routes, while durable abrasion-resistant outer fabric lets you reach into any crack without fear of ripping your jacket. It's got an active fit that layers easily, so as the winter comes on you can throw it under a belaying parka or head back to the mountains to get your early-season shred on.

  • A durable midweight fleece for chilly desert routes
  • Soft brushed fleece gives you warmth on cold mornings
  • Durable outer fabric blocks wind and resists tearing
  • Active fit offers easy layering for multi-season use
  • Hand and chest pockets hold gear

Portland yuppie status achieved

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This jacket makes me feel comfortable braving the outside forces in the Pearl District of Portland. When I wear this jacket it makes me feel like I'm getting into my brand new sandstorm colored Toyota 4runner, when I'm really just driving a 96 Jeep Cherokee. Top notch, very warm, quality materials for the price = absolutely worth it.

I love it, definitely light weight though

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Super versatile and I love the fit and warmth. More like a light weight hoodie than a jacket though.

Disappointed

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

Zipper broke 3 weeks after I purchased it. It fits true to the size and it's a nice looking jacket, but bad quality.

Midweight should be called: Lightweight

  • Size Bought: XL

Be careful if you are expecting something a bit more soft and comfortable. This isn't it. I am sure that its quite fine and does the job but its not designed for comfort as much as its for function. I put it on and immediately took off and knew it was a bad fit for the' comfort'. Best suited for someone more active who values the need of a every day ready option: Its Lightweight and not Midweight.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure the hip circumference at the fullest part of the seat, keeping the tape horizontal around the body.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Sleeve Length:
Measure the distance from the prominent bone at center back neck, across the shoulder, over the bent elbow to the center of the wrist bone.
