- Q & A
Great fitting flannel
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
Every time I buy a flannel it fits too big in the armholes. This one fits just right, I'm 6'1", 180 lbs, ordered medium, perfect. The print is a modern plaid, not too casual. Flannel is heavy weight but in a good way.
Perfect Fit For Me
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've posted this as 5 stars because it fits me great, had great construction and is mega comfy. But I'll start by saying this doesn't have the standard medium fit that most brands carry or what I'd expect of TNF shirts. And that is why I love it.
I just picked up another one in a different color and am most likely going to get the remaining colors.
Most mediums are always super tight in the shoulders on me and perfect at the waist. And Larges always fit great in the shoulders and super wide at the waist.
The Alpine Zone fits perfectly in the shoulders for me and perfectly in the waist.
I've got one of the Patagonia Fjord flannels from about 5 years ago and the sleeves on that were short to begin with when I got it. But the sleeves on the Alpine Zone are nice and long with good coverage.
This is a nice thicker material and definitely perfect when the temps are a tad bit cooler.
Most Euro larges fit me perfectly
TNF Mediums are generally too tight in the shoulders
I'll try and get a photo posted to show fit.
Wanted it to work!
First of all, this is an awesome, heavy, high quality flannel. I wanted so badly for it to fit right! I followed the sizing chart on the site and even went to the more intense sizing selector on The North Face site. On that site it asks for height, weight, how you want it to fit, and age. I guess men carry weight differently when they age. Im pretty slender, 6 feet tall, 170lbs, and Im 44. I guess all of that together means I need a size medium, which is what i always order in other brands. Maybe since im 44 they assume i needed the shirt to also fit like a tent haha. Very boxy, loose fitting. If you are looking for something to layer under, or prefer a more roomy fit this would be a great shirt. I prefer a slimmer cut shirt and as much as i tried to talk myself into being ok with the fit, i just couldnt get there. Have to return. FIt doesnt seem true to size based on my fit preference.
