I gave this as a gift -- she wanted a loose layer to throw on and the off easily while touring, even over outer layer. Now it is her favorite jacket. Better than average quality nylon, enough insulation to require little else in ~30 degree weather. Purchased size small which fits loosely and is good for long torsos, extra coverage below the hip as well. If you want it to be more fitted, size down.

Best layer ever

I have worn this jacket in every condition imaginable. It packs down really nicely for an extra layer touring or for backpacking trips. I've worn it under a shell, I've worn it by itself, I've worn it skiing, fishing, hiking, camping, touring, backpacking, and out on the town. It is so incredibly warm without being a sweatbox especially with the mesh layer under the pits. It even does a great job of keeping you warm if it gets a little wet. It's so nice to put on at the top of a mountain after a climb--it keeps the warmth in while you fiddle with your gear before the descent.

I love that the fit is a little longer then most puffy-type jackets and the cut is really flattering without compromising mobility. The big pockets are really nice although I have very long hair that I wear on one side and sometimes it gets stuck since the zipper comes up so far--my only complaint. I honestly cannot think of a better insulating layer.

It fits true to size. Originally I was a little worried about sizing and ordered a medium and I was swimming in it. The small fits absolutely perfectly. The material seems really durable and I feel comfortable skiing in it as a stand alone layer (although I wouldn't suggest that if you're skiing PNW). The color is beautiful. I simply cannot say enough good things about this jacket!
