No matter what main body fabric is used to make a pair of cycling shorts, seams will cause chafing. In redesigning its legendary Women’s RS Pro Shorts, Sugoi sought to keep seams away from your body. The Sugoi Women's RS Pro Shorts feature pro-level fit and wind-cheating fabrics to remove the hurt from a long ride.
Sugoi's RS Pro shorts were constructed from Ultra Aero fabric. This material has been knit with a dimensionally sculpted surface. What is a sculpted surface to be exact? Well, think of a golf ball. The dimples on the surface help create less friction as it flies through the air. In a similar manner, the Ultra Aero has received "dimples" on its surface so that it is more aerodynamic. The fabric's stretch also lightly compresses the muscles, which helps to reduce fatigue induced by vibration from rough roads. Ultra Aero also wicks perspiration from your skin to keep you cool and dry for the duration of your ride.
The shorts feature paneling that is designed to move with you while in the riding position. All seams have been given flatlock stitching to minimize chafing, and the absence of an inner thigh seam reduces chafing against the saddle. A wide, yoga-inspired waistband holds the shorts comfortably in place, and the carefully designed leg opening with silicone printed inner tape and aero band provides a smoother fit than conventional gripper-style leg openings.
Finishing the shorts is Sugoi's Formula FX chamois. This seamless, antibacterial chamois ensures hours of endless comfort in the saddle.
- Q & A
Extremely comfortable but runs small
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Medium
These were only the second pair of bike shorts I have ever purchased in my life. I was super excited to try them! I took my measurements, I was right in the middle of the measurements for the waist for Medium (29") and the hips were going to be "roomy" (37"). I received my shorts, tried them on and, boy, it took some finessing to get the waistband over my hips! Once they were on, they were extremely comfortable on and off the bike but I'm pretty sure I heard seams ripping as I was donning them... I think they will be ok but I wish there was a larger size I could try.
Way too small for me to try on!
The material and quality seemed nice but I couldn't event get these shorts on! The sizing is waaay off. I'm 5'7" 135lb and the mediums were very difficult to get on/off. I would be worried about ripping some of the seams if I was moving to quickly to get them on/off. I ended up returning these.
Oh Sugoi, what have you done?
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
I have been wearing the Sugoi RS Pro shorts religiously during the warmer months for more than a dozen years (straying only for the occasional Rapha shorts and harder core winter gear from the likes of Rapha and Castelli). They have always, for me, been at that perfect price point for value: superior material quality and fit, and the latest in chamois technology, for a mid-point price. I think nothing of wearing them for every day sessions on the Kicker as well as for long weekend rides and the occasional sportive. I wore these shorts up the Galibier and Alpe d'Huez, and across the cobbles in Flanders, even when I opted for my "best jersey" and gloves--which is to say that I find them equally as comfortable as my Raphas, even for the roughest days. Then my local bike store stopped carrying them, which I perhaps should have taken as a sign that their relative quality is slipping. Still, I ordered two pairs from Competitive Cyclist in the same size I've always worn (medium, I also wear an XS in Rapha and am a US Size 4 for comparison). I was pretty shocked to find them so small I could barely get them on. It was hard to judge the fit, of course, but I was also not particularly impressed with the new material they are using--a little stiff and crispy compared with its soft, breathable predecessor. I'm going to try to exchange for the larger size, but may be on the hunt for a new favorite after this.
UPDATE: Ordered the larger size, which fit better through the hips but the elastic hung loosely on my thighs. I do NOT have stick-figure legs so this was pretty puzzling. Perhaps Sugoi has completely forgotten what women are shaped like? At any rate, I'm returning them and not trying again. Completely bummed.

I wear a size 12 jeans. Why, then, should I not fit in these XL bike shorts? And they don't make XXL, meaning that no woman who would like to exercise and lose a little weight can bike in these wonderful shorts. The pad looks fabulous, but, as I could not get these past my apparently jumbo knees, I will never know how it feels.
