Awesome, wish ear cover was a bit warmer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I found the ear cover leaves a pocket for cold air to creep into. It protects from side winds pretty well, but when facing directly into the wind my ears still are pretty cold. Other than that it serves its purpose perfectly. Looks great too. my 22.5 inch head fit in the 7 and 3/8 size perfect.

Great hat for upland

Epic Hat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 7 3/8

The Stormy Kromer Mercantile Original Cap is truly epic. It is the best hat for cool spring nights all the way to freezing temps. The not so secret ingredient ... this cap has fabric that goes around the hat to adjust the fit and act as an ear cover to keep you warm in winter conditions. I use this hat for cold early morning surf checks, fly fishing, backcountry skiing, and going out to the bar. This thing is built to last. Quality over quantity. If you have any questions hit me at 801-523-4075 or email me at borloski@backcountry.com

    Old School Cool

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 7 3/8

I have about a 22.5" noggin' and wear the 7 3/8 cap Patridge Plaid. Looking at the size chart, I would say they run small. Size aside, this is hands down one of my favorite hats, ever. I use it for backcountry touring, camping in the fall, going out in the winter, and any sort of nippy weather/

    Pros:
    - They look great and perform even better. Until theres a bite to the cold, you can keep the earflaps up.
-I consistently wear it in during any chilly weather. Its warm, perfect from fall to early spring.
-Made in America, not something that a lot of products can boast about.

    Cons:
-I wish the ear flaps went down just a little bit more, the tips of my ears just barely aren't covered.
-You'll have to stop and chat with anyone else you see with a Stormy Kromer because they are the greatest hats.

Unless you live somewhere that doesn't ever get cold, you need to own one of these hats.

This is my second Stormy Kromer. I hike in them, snowblow and wear them around town. I love how comfortable and versatile they are. If you have any questions about Stormy Kromers, please feel free to email me.

      Favorite cold weather hat

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7

I have two of these, one is the Blaze orange I use for hunting and another in the Adirondack Plaid. The most comfortable hat I have the wind will not blow it off to be lost like has happened to me in the past with other hats. Everytime I wear it someone comments that they like the hat. I plan on using it for skiing this winter, ear covers down on the lift up on the ski down. Love this hat.

I live in San Diego, it can be brisk in the morning but once the sun comes out it's comfortable. Will this hat get too hot?

I wear mine all the time, if it's real cold pull down the earband but if it warms up put it back up. I don't think I've ever been too hot wearing it. That being said I usually don't wear it if it's above 75 degrees out mid day, hope this helps!
