Perfect

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I love these! Bought 5 pairs. Yes... they're ugly/not flattering. But noone but me and the other gals at the gym sees me in my underwear. Love the Merino wool and will never go back to synthetics. Great fit, light weight, extremely comfortable, warm when you need warmth, cool, dry and breathable when you need cool. Agree that the waistband doesn't need to be so wide.

Poor quality & poor construction

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I didn't try this on, but there was no need. The fabric is way too thin and see through even without stretching it ... is that what they mean by "breathable". It's also clearly not been constructed/designed by women because it doesn't have a gusset (the extra layer of fabric sewn into the crotch portion of women's underwear). I will be returning and once again have been disappointed by another one of Backcountry's in-house brands.

Needs Workshoping

I LOVE the IDEA (as someone who has purchased masculine boxers to have some comfortable coverage, particularly for cold weather outdoorings). I imagined these would fit, look and perform better. The price was right, but I tried them on a could tell you that I didn't bother exploring performance because of the poor fit. Elastic waistband ridiculously tight (compresses to pain and leaves marks), in-seam WAY too long (goes to base of bra), and cloth material, everything below the waistband, so oversized and loose that it rides up (worse than the men's boxer's it was went to be an improvement on). There isn't anything like this in the market. I would definitely try again IF, they made improvement to the fit (maybe try demoing with female athletes to get a better sense).

Sad looking undies

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The shorter version of these- 5 years ago- was actually cute looking as well as comfortable. While these are comfortable, they’re just plain ugly.

just a man's boxer, not women designed

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Not designed or modified for women. The waistband is very high - about 4 inches above my belly button, and the waistband is heavier elastic that feels bulky and constricting. The legs are fairly long - I'd say about 4 inch inseam, and there is no gusset of extra fabric in the crotch area which I prefer. These really feel like shorts in which you still need to wear underwear underneath. They basically feel like they were designed by a man, with no consideration for women except to remove the front flap. This was my first Stoic purchase and not a good introduction to the brand. One bonus is that they don't ride up, no wedgies! I discovered that these work great for yoga/workout shorts, as long as you don't mind or can roll over the high waistband.

They're more like shorts

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love the quality of the fabric, but I don't feel like they're underwear. It feels more like shorts, and it feels like you should be wearing something else underneath. About the sizing, it feels right to me as long as the fabric doesn't stretch (it hasn't so far, and I've already washed my boxers several times); I guess it's because I'm curvy. I'll definitely look for something that feels more like underwear.

Nice but disappointing

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

They are very soft and cute with a comfy waistband, the seams aren't itchy at all and the construction form fits to the body well. I have a 26" waist and 35" hips, wear xs/xxs 23/24 and these fit perfectly. My problem is that I was hoping to wear these as underwear, and thought they would be nice for that when I saw the gusseted crotch area, but they didn't put in an extra layer of fabric there. It's still just one layer and is thin enough to be see through (fine for the rest of the boxers but I don't think that would be adequate to wear as underwear.) The other issue is that they are super high waisted, past my belly button. This makes them comfy and flattering but the waist is much higher than most pants I would wear them with so they stick out the top.

Sorry ladies...

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are not the Stoic boyshorts you're looking for. I have been around for 4 generations of Stoic merino boyshorts and have been in love since the beginning. Unfortunately, each new generation gets worse and worse. These didn't have any reviews, so I bit the bullet in order to report back to all the other Stoic boyshort lovers out there. I ordered 2 pairs and will send one back (keeping the pair I tried on) as the sale price is still pretty expensive. The good: They're merino wool. They seem to have a sturdy construction. I like the charcoal grey color. The bad: 1) the style. These shorts have a MUCH higher waist than the originals... they went up to my belly button, which is not ideal for wearing under work clothing. Additionally, the waist band is at least twice as wide as the original boyshorts. The legs are much longer than the originals, but I found them to ride up just as much, and they bunched around the top of my thighs with all the extra material. 2) the fit. I used to wear mediums, but with the newer, less stretchy variation of these boyshorts, I had to switch to larges. For reference, I am 5'8", 165 lbs and rather butt/hip heavy (43") with a smaller waist (27"). That being said, I ordered these in a large. I did not like how they fit as I think they are too big everywhere except for the waist. If I were to order in a medium, I think the waist band would be too tight and produce a muffin top. My butt definitely had tons of room with the longer leg/waist style, but the front on my abdomen was baggy with extra material. Again, maybe I should try a medium, but I'm afraid of the waist band being too tight. And, lastly, though I don't choose boyshorts for a "sexy" choice, these were not flattering on my butt at all-- there are no seams and the longer leg/waist style gave me an awkwardly shaped, really long looking backside. Bottom line: If you're looking for the "original" boyshorts, these are not them. Stoic: Go back to the original waistband and keep the longer legs-- that'll be a winner.
