Best boxers of all time

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Best money I ever spent on underwear. Currently using them on a long distance bike tour. Fit, comfort, and smell-proof factor are all off the charts. Would highly recommend for all outdoor activities.

Wool for life

As far as wool boxers go, these stand up to the best. The thick waist band is a nice touch, and the boxers are snug but not tight, so they fit very comfortably and work well with movement, I just ran a marathon in them last weekend and they were a dream!

Great boxers

Overall great quality. I dig the wider/thicker waistband, it doesn’t feel constricting and is super soft. Very breathable but still thick enough to be durable.
Will probably need more than just 2 pairs

The best merino boxer

I've been wearing merino boxers every day as regular underwear for years now and have gone through several brands, these are by far the best that I've tried.

The material is thicker, more comfortable, and more durable than other brands, the inseam is longer, and they have the absolute best wide, soft, sewn-in waistband. Others are content with a raw elastic waistband, which presents 2 problems- it's uncomfortable, and the shorts tend to rip where the merino is stitched to the elastic. Not an issue with the stoic shorts which is a big reason why they last longer.

One slight knock- I have both black and heather grey pairs, and the inseam length on the grey ones are about 3

nice undies

very soft and comfortable, yet sturdy. The fabric is probably a tad too thick to wear in a hot climate or during the summer, but great otherwise. I've been using them as pajama bottoms/shorts.

    Great stuff

I am a fan of merino. I use it during the winter, for spring and fall hikes, and any other time I need temperature control but don't want to use smelly polyester. These are great for all of those reasons and depending on how they hold up I will probably get another pair.

    My favorite undies

Stoic sometimes has a weird fit. I am happy to say that these are spot on for the fit, not to mention the price too. I will be taking a few pairs of these on our Peru trip coming up. I ordered a medium and i'm a size 32 waist.

    I finally killed them

Well, I ordered two pairs about two years ago. In that time those trusty two weathered over 240 days of wildland firefighting, over 100 days of hunting, trips to Asia and Europe and South America, and nearly a hundred ski/skinning days. I don't run in them and the one time I did did not end well. In all other activities, these thing are bomb, and I'm pleasantly surprised to find them still in stock. I got them last time for $26 but I think these are worth it to around $40 a pair. Not as tight fitting as the Icebreaker or Smartwool varieties, which is nice. Very durable. I thought Stoic was long-gone! Now if only I could get some more Stoic bibs...?!? I am a 34 waist and my old pairs were Larges; may try a Medium this time.

    Very comfortable

Hard to even notice when sleeping in these. The fabric is thick and soft; very comfortable and firm fitting.

Yep they’re as nice as you’d think!

The rest of my baselayers are merino so I figured I’d give them a shot and they are worth every penny. Comfortable, durable, temperature regulating, naturally odor-resistant... what else do you need?

      these are right

full-on merino is the only way to go. These are great and i have multiple pairs. My favs.

Looking for amazing comfort and moisture wicking ability for a great price? You found a winner here! I picked up a pair a week ago and I'll be picking up 3 more pairs very soon.

        cheap and easy

        just like they should be.
Really though..these are awesome and at a great price. They fit and feel great!

        Super Exited

After reading the review below I couldn't believe how durable these are. I can't wait to get 2 years out of each pair.

          Lol

          Works great, comfortable, doesn't last

This pair of boxers fit true to size and were very comfortable. Unfortunately the boxer part started separating from the waistband after a short time. They are now getting to the point where they are falling apart. I kept wearing them because $40 underwear should last a long time. It's only been two years. If they were $15 they'd get 5 stars.

I totally agree that the one downside of these boxers is the high merino content means a big decrease in longevity compared to cotton or polyester. 2 years is right around the life I get out of these as well before they start to develop holes. In my opinion, it's a worthwhile trade off for the comfort. I machine wash and dry mine, but if you wanted to get as much life out of these as possible I would recommend hang drying. I'm extremely biased since I work at Backcountry and this is our brand, but thought I'd add my $0.02 in case you wanted to try the hang drying thing.

          first experience with wool boxers!!!!

These are awesome!! I wish I had bought more sooner, the back side of the boxer is pretty good at not having it ride up unlike other competitors who tend to wedgie a little more.

Keeps you cool & confident in any spot!!

No matter your Pursuit, a solid pair of underwear can make or break your day in the mountains, and these bad boys deliver!
If you have not experienced Merino in the form of undergarments than you, my friend, (as well as your manly bits) are just missing out.
These amazing briefs are a blend of Merino with a touch of spandex to give them that next to skin feel. This also is what helps them keep their shape all day, and prevent the dreaded "ride up" that we have all experienced. the material is actually very lightweight and dries in really no time at all, so you can wear them for multiple days on trail without any of the stench that comes with synthetic underwear. (just don't tell your girlfriend) Oh and the waistband on these beauts is very nice as well.
If I had any"cons" it would be that they are a bit long in the leg, Which I guess is only an issue to guys like me that are 5'7" or under. Also, I have not seen the Galaxy print mentioned in Bills review, but it sounds super rad. I sure would love to see some variety in colorways for these guys. In summary: Buy 9 pairs and replace your old dirty undies, you will not be disappointed.

          Thank God They're Back

Stoic had an identical looking merino boxer in the past that I loved. I got a bunch of them and they were my go-to favorites for years. The one downside is that this material definitely wears out and starts to spring holes after lots of wears and washes. Well worth the trade off for the incredible comfort though in my opinion I still get a solid year+ of regular use out of each pair.

Anyway... I was down to only a few pairs recently and was so sad that Stoic didn't have any more for me to buy. I started trying other types of boxers and couldn't find anything I liked as much. Then these popped up, which are a re-make of the old style. Fit and materials are nearly identical and they are wonderful. If you haven't tried them I obviously would recommend it. They're a little expensive, but they are so comfortable and the merino material stays fresh much longer than pure cotton or poly boxers so they're great for camping, traveling, etc. And don't let the merino fool you, they aren't crazy warm I wear them all summer and winter.

          Hooked on Stoic Underwear...

Few months ago, it started with the low priced 'galaxy' print, I'll just try one....few weeks later I was back for more...4 pairs should be enough, I thought. I picked up 4 sets of these, as the ones that got me hooked are sold out. Nothing beats merino wool. Hope to see Stoic drop more like the 'galaxy' print again, my suggested next print would be black and grey tie-dye. Stoic's performance underwear design, patterns ect Way better than many other 'performance' brand underwear that I've tried over the years.
