Lightweight and stylish

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Purchased this as a gift for a family member and she loves it! The color is vibrant, the hood rests nicely out of the way until needed and the length is perfect for casual or dressy. A nice addition to any wardrobe.

Good but zipper pops open

The jacket keeps me warm in the upper 30s, but the zipper does pop open with little movement if you are layering.

    She loves it!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

Bought this as a gift and she loves it. I got her the Cranberry color and she says she receives compliments all the time on both the jacket and the color. Her only issue is the full zip up the hood and doesn't really see the purpose of it. When she tried zipping it up all the way, she said it felt like she was suffocating. No big deal, she just doesn't zip it up all the way...problem solved. The built in stuff sack is a nice feature and the jacket packs down small for trips. It's the perfect warmth for the not freezing weather that is happening right now in Utah.

    Everything done right

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

I bought size XL after skeptically viewing the sizing chart. My curvy hips make clothing purchases a difficult fit, and I was within the measurement range. IT FIT PERFECTLY!! I was wearing a mid bulk sweater and no problems zipping it up. Very flattering diagonal stitching lines, with side panels stitches vertically.

On the item description I did not notice that the stuff sack for the jacket is integrated into the inside of the back shoulder area. Very clever design, no chance of losing the stuff sack. If I was to make one improvement suggestion, it would be to reduce the size of the stuff sack. There is much more ability to shrink the size of the stuffed jacket, good for those of us who like to keep our extra jacket in our tote or small pack.

In the ordering process, I needed to call customer service about a pricing issue and they answered right away and cheerfully made the adjustment.

Great product fit, design and great customer service. As a first time customer I look forward to shopping Backcountry for more quality, well designed items.

    Love this jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Love the color. Really comfortable to wear! I use as a car jacket when I’m out running errands or shopping. It’s not to insulated so I recommend layering when out in the cold temperatures for extended period of time. Very lightweight. Fits true to size.

    Honestly, Stance is the bomb.

This was a christmas gift for my girlfriend. She says that it's almost on par with TNF, Mountain Hardwear, and Patagucci in terms of quality and fit. Stay tuned for durability review.....

A nice lighweight option that looks great!

Poor Quality Zipper & Not True to Color

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

The zipper track pops open at the bottom of the jacket with little movement. (I imagine it's worse wearing layers – I've only used it in a Florida winter.) To fix, you have to unzip all the way and kind of force it down through the 'split.' It was very fiddly to fix. I see at least one other reviewer has had the same problem, so it looks like it's not a one-off defect.

My husband's Stoic fleece hoodie also had this zipper problem on the first wear. It's even a little big on him, so no undue pressure on these zippers – they're simply poor quality. Stoic is Backcountry's in-house brand and I expected more. For the price, it's just not worth it. Will not buy this brand again.

(FYI, the Cranberry/Iridescent is not quite true to the color on the website. I was expecting a deep red with a slight purple or pinkish tint, but it's really more of a red rust color, which is less appealing with the metallic sheen.)

    Its a full full zip

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

I didn't realize it before purchasing, but the zipper is the style that fully zips up the hood. On trend, but personally I have really fine hair and it gets extra stuck in all my normal zipper, so not messing with extra zipper all the way up the hood.

It is definitely lightweight and packable, and the XL fit perfect, with enough room to wear another layer underneath.

    Not as thick as expected

This is a good out and about jacket but only if you are going in and out of cars and buildings. Not as warm as expected but still a good fit. If you are looking for a warm jacket for long city morning walking commutes i'd say get something more insulated then this jacket. Fits true to size.

    Nice Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS

Got this because it was packable and great for traveling. It does that but not much more. It is very lightweight and can be packed into a small bundle. At the same time it is still very warm. However it is not meant for everyday wear. I've been wearing it for a week or two straight and it sheds considerably. My shirts are not only covered in the down but now my jacket is losing its insides. Soon I'll be left with a completely flat jacket. Afraid I'll have to pack it away and only use it for traveling/emergencies...

Sizing for Stoic is usually smaller but this jacket runs true to size. I usually get a Small in tops for Stoic but the jacket was huge on me so I exchanged for an XS which fit better; it still left enough room for me to wear a sweater underneath (I'm 5ft 105lbs). The length is a little longer for me but most clothing are because I'm so short. Only issue is that the pockets hit right at my hip so when I put my phone in the pocket (and it only fits in portrait orientation) it gets in the way when I bend. But not the jacket's issue, only a problem if you're short like me.

Another drawback is that the zipper busted open one time because of the phone-in-pocket issue. I bent over without adjusting my phone, which made it protrude out at the bottom and the zipper split open from the bottom of the zipper :( took a while for me to fix it but it still works normally after that. Hopefully it's not a continuing issue.
