Comfortable, flexible, durable, and ready for the river.

Whoever told you that all drysuits are uncomfortable clearly never paddled in the Stohlquist Shift Drysuit. This suit might look like separate jacket and pants, but it's actually a complete, one-piece drysuit. Its Rampart shell consists of a nonporous, hydrophilic polyurethane membrane that allows water vapor to collect and escape through gaps between the PU molecules within the membrane. Unlike most traditional membranes, this membrane provides better long term breathability by expanding the fabric when your body temperature rises, and it works better in salt water than conventional drysuits, too. Underneath the membrane, you have nylon that's thick in some areas for durability and thinner in others so you can move without much restriction.

Apart from being more flexible, what really sets the Shift apart from other drysuits is the innovative attached jacket that offers extra protection in truly wet, windy weather, and the option to unzip and cool off when it's not needed. This Stand-by Mode, which allows you to zip down the and release the neck gasket for more comfort, great for when you're launching your boat, eating lunch on the sand, scouting for the next drop, or teaching some beginners how to roll. The outer jacket also features an adjustable hood that you can remove when there's nothing but a sunny sky overhead.

Stohlquist added Cordura reinforcements and armor at the seat and knees for excellent abrasion resistance, and both the seat and knees have mesh drains to rid the suit of any excess water. There are latex gaskets at the neck and your wrists to prevent any water from draining in. The MaterSeal waterproof entry and relief system with waterproof zippers and a Captive Zip self-entry system all help you put the suit on and stay covered. Stohlquist articulated the knees so you can walk and swim without any restrictions. The Gripp-Loc skirt tunnel plays well with sprayskirts, and internal elastic suspenders prevent the suit from moving around while you swim. Hook-and-loop straps cinch the wrists and ankles to keep the cold out, and Stohlquist included drysocks to keep your feet nice and toasty on the chilly river. The chest pocket has a headphone routing port so you can listen to music while you hike out to the river, but be sure to seal your media player in a dry bag while you paddle because the chest pocket isn't waterproof.

Keeps you dry and warm in Antarctica

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I’m 6’2” and 190lbs, wearing a size Large and there’s plenty of room for 3 layers underneath while guiding sea kayak trips in Antarctica. Zip around the neck is nice when you want the gasket off but still want to be wearing the jacket & hood. Reinforced knees and butt are great when landing on rough beaches. Adjustable hood fits great over a helmet and can be tightened when using just over a beanie. Suspenders and belt becomes bulky around your waist but they’re both removable. Waist pockets are useful, but the mesh inside the corners are rough on your hands after kayaking in extremely cold & wet conditions. Collar isn’t as high as most jackets, but still provides protection from wind. Great drysuit for short trips in mild climates and guiding in Antarctica!

January rafting down the Grand Canyon...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

... and the Stohlquist Shift worked wonderfully. No leaks, the pockets were great to have, and the stand-by mode made it so much more convenient than the Kokatat suits my friends had. I could put it on first thing in the morning and pack up camp (or keep it on after a full day, while setting up camp), all without the neck gasket squeezing my neck. Nice for long scouts, too.

I haven't needed to use the sprayskirt tunnel but it's nice to have.

As for sizing: I'm 6'0", 170lbs, and the size large fits great.

    How to Measure:
For the best fit, it is suggested to take measurements while wearing the clothing you intend to wear under your drysuit while paddling, as thick undergarments and baselayers may affect the fit of the drysuit.
    Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Hips:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
    Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
    Sleeve:
Measure from the center of the back of your neck to the bend in your wrist with arms held out.
