Stohlquist Nemo Personal Flotation Device - Kids'

An enjoyable day on the water means knowing that your youngster is safe, sound, and plenty comfortable.

Your little one might not want to wear a PFD, but the Stolhquist Nemo Personal Flotation Device will prove to be too comfortable to turn down. Soft, PVC-free foam has a synthetic liner that dries quickly out of the water so there's no soggy feeling after a swim. Stohlquist engineers cleverly designed the flotation with a wraparound shape that turns your child face-up in the water while supporting the head and neck.

  • Non-bulky PVC Gaia foam provides all the flotation your child needs
  • High-visibility colors make it easy to keep an eye on your little one
  • Quick-release buckle over the zipper entry provides added security
  • Adjustable crotch strap keeps the PFD from sliding over your young un's head when he or she is in the water
  • Grab handle at the top allows you to get a grip on your kid right from the vest

Great for Toddler

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This fits my 2.5 year old daughter great. We've only used it in the pool so far to let her get used to it before an upcoming boat trip, but she likes wearing it and it works well.

Not What I Expected. :-(

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The Stohlquist Nemo Fish Personal Flotation Device, is very cute and I loved the bright blue color reason why I give it four stars but, unfortunately, it doesn't have enough coverage/padding on the back like other jackets and the very little coverage that it has is made with a very thin and flexible foam. Not at all what I was expecting and its hard to tell from the picture since the back of the jacket is black. My son has a condition in which he has no muscle tone and I need jacket that can support his back in the water, like the Speedo life jackets for infants. its too bad this jacket didn't work out for us.

Hi Yesenia,
Not sure if you found a better pfd yet, but I believe what you're looking for is a "Type I" PFD. I couldn't find what type the Nemo is, but Type I is designed to automaticallt keep heads above water.

Hi--I am wondering if this is a coast guard type 2 or type 3 vest. Any ideas?

Hey Dana,

This is the kid's size and it is a type III. I hope this helps. Contact me directly with any other questions.

Great Product & Service

I ordered a Stohiquist Flotation Jacket and it was too small. A quick call to ask for help and a new jacket was sent to me and I was sent a return form for the jacket to be returned. A very quick and seemless process provided by a very professional representative. Great experience.

Product is excellent and provides the security needed for a 6 month old.

I highly rercommend both Back Country and Stohiquist

Hey Tony! Welcome to the Backcountry Community!

I have a son which I want to take out on the kayak with me, however he is only 30 or 32 pounds. Is this jacket a good option for us? Can you give me a recommendation. Thanks.

You're in a tough spot friend. Looks like your son is right on the edge of the infant and child categories, maxing out the smaller one, and just meeting the low end of the child sizes. I would err on the side of more flotation, especially considering that he'll be growing. I would get this jacket rather than an infant size, but make sure the fit is correct. Adjust all the straps accordingly, make sure its always completely secured, and if it is too loose, wait a few months until it fits properly (when you lift on the shoulders of the PFD it shouldn't go above his ears). Hopefully that was somewhat helpful! Good luck!

What is the difference between STO0062 and ST00022, aside from the fish design and the price? ...There is quite a price difference. Both are "small," intended for 30-50 lb kids.

Hi there!

The STO0022 you've mentioned is simply a previous season's model, which is why it's significantly cheaper at the moment. There have been no significant changes to design or materials used for the jacket.

My child has special needs. This jacket, the Stohlquist Nemo Personal Flotation Devise, looks like it would be good for her because it has head support. She is 9 years old, 4'6" tall and about 65 lbs. What size should I buy for her?

Hey Sharon,

This PFD is only USCG approved up to 50 lbs.

Maybe take a look at the Lil' Legends PFD which is better suited for 50-90 lbs:

For the Stohlquist Nemo it has a choice of XS and S I just want to confirm the S is the child size (30-50lbs) thanks!

That is correct. The child variant is the Small and the Infant is XS.

She loves it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this for my 4 yr old daughter. She has never been so comfy in a PFD before. No complaints when she has to put it on to go out in the boat.

Yes it does.

Grab handle is key

When you have an active kid who loves to jump off the paddleboard, having the handle is key. My son is 4 years old and 40 lbs and it adjusts to fit perfectly. And he loves to wear it, so it must be comfortable.

Perfect--i am shopping for my 4 year who is about 40 lbs.
