Love of my Life
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Large
I have a surprisingly hard time finding shorts that fit. I have thigh and a butt from year-round biking and skiing. Ladies- you are not alone! There are perfect optimal movement in the waist for comfort and won't fall down, plus breathable!
10/10!

Something about Sombrio's shorts just keep me coming back for more! I already own two pairs, but in a different model, and these might be my favorite of the three! I love the lightweight fabric they use, combined with the 4 way stretch which makes these extremely comfy for long days in the saddle. The pockets are great! and the vent holes seem like they will come in handy once temps start to rise. They are a good length and the blue color is beautiful! The fit is true to size as well. No complaints!
Fit perfect
- Size Bought: Medium
5'8" 145# +/- curvy with thighs. Fit great. Have the hardest time finding shorts. Will be tight with a higher profile chamois but I either don't wear one or a very thin one. I loved the Val shorts from Sombrio too. I got the large and they were huge.
Odd sizing
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: medium and large
As with the Sombrio Val, POC, Fox, Zoic, etc....... and all other shorts I have tried for MTB, they all have odd sizing variation. The medium is skin tight and the large is huge. I have simply resorted to riding in shorts too big which stinks for many reasons. I returned these since they were too expensive to have another pair of shorts in the fleet that do not fit right... The plum was beautiful, but they had to go back.
Thank you!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Ohh, Thank you Sombrio! Curvy girls love riding bikes, too!
I just picked these up and tried them on, so I haven't used them on the trail yet, but I am SO impressed with the fit, that I had to leave a review immediately.
I bought the XL, and most XL's in the bike industry fit like a medium. I am SO happy to say these fit, and they fit really well, and they don't cause sausage rolls in the waist, and they are even flattering on the backside. I generally wear a 14-16 bottom in women's sizing (depending on brand), and the XL is perfect for me. Needs a little adjusting in the waist, but this is why they offer the adjustment tabs. So it's great!
The fabric here is a bit lighter overall and has a really nice stretch to it (perfect for being active and moving). And the waist has adjustment tabs on both sides for a custom fit.
The pockets will easily fit ID and credit card, and the left front pocket has a lanyard hiding inside it. The pockets are a touch narrow, so not quite as ideal for a phone, but most phones will probably fit.
They also have two pockets in the rear. One plain low profile zipper and one flap style. I think it's more for looks really, but they are both functional if you want to use them.
I also tried on the V'al shorts. They are the same length, with a burlier fabric, and a similar fit, but I liked these Summit shorts just slightly better overall for my purposes (lighter stretch fabric, and overall fit). If you want a more abbrasion resistant fabric, check out the V'al: http://www.backcountry.com/sombrio-val-short-womens
Update: more than a year going and these have held up perfectly, and have been my favorite go-to shorts. I frequently attach my car key to the pass lanyard in the left pocket, and ride with my phone in the right zipper pocket if I want to keep it handy.
First Ride Impressions: They were perfect. The light and stretchy fabric performed flawlessly, and that is to say they were never a hindrance while riding. I barely noticed them, and in my opinion that is the measure of a great bike short.
