An everyday bra for active women.
The Smartwool PhD Support Bra is made from merino wool and features a 4 Degree fit system that provides the support and comfort you need to push to the next level. Merino wool is naturally antimicrobial, letting you wear this bra on long excursions. The adjustable shoulder straps are made seamless to avoid chafing and pinching, especially when wearing a pack. The non-stretch molded cups are lined with merino wool that helps wick moisture, in addition to being wicked comfortable.

Couldn't be worse!
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought: 34B
I'm not sure why my experience was so different from the other poster. I found this bra to be absolutely the opposite of everything I've come to expect from Smartwool.
The fit was TERRIBLE. There isn't enough structure on the side of the bra to scoop and contain my boobs into the body of the bra and the cups. The bra seems to assume that the wearer has boobs that are very close together and point straight ahead -- my breasts sort of hang down and to the side. I think the band is supposed to be the main source of support, perhaps, because the cups themselves offered no compression -- they were more like pockets and they gaped badly at the underarm, though I found the cups to be too big. Overall, my boobs sagged and flopped.
I did NOT find the bra to be comfortable. The closure at the back is bulky and itchy. The wool on the inside is scratchy, unlike every other Smartwool product. I found the bra to be rather hot and sweaty after just trying it on.
The bra also did not look good. It was not smooth, and would have appeared very lumpy under clothing.
Great light activity sports bra
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
My wife says, "This is a comfortable sports bra for light activity (not running or cardio, but weights and yoga)."
My wife is normally a 32 DD, so she purchased a 34 D and the bra fits well without any overflow.
She was concerned the heavier weight would make this bra hot and scratchy, but it's not hotter than any other bra she has and feels great against her skin (now she knows why I swear by SmartWool running shirts). The bra does get sweaty like any other bra; not overly hot, though.
A word of caution: it will give you a 'uniboob', but that's the kind of bra it is.
Overall, it's an attractive sports bra and she and I definitely recommend it.
