One smart pair of shorts.

Like you, the Women's Smartwool PhD Printed Short is a big fan of higher education—that's why it lined itself with a wool brief for better comfort and thermoregulation. It did its research and discovered that wool helps trap body heat when you're on an early morning run, but wicks away any excess so you don't get too warm once you pick up the pace. The lightweight stretch woven outer short moves as you move, and a zippered pocket keeps your key safe while you're on the trail. The Printed Short also knows about safety, so the waistline features 360 degree reflective hits—no matter what time you're getting out, you'll be visible to the bikers sharing your path.

  • Performance shorts for hiking and running
  • Wool liner promotes thermal regulation and keeps odors away
  • Stretch construction offers mobile comfort on the trail
  • Zippered pocket keeps keys, ID, cash, or lip balm safe
  • Reflective hits keep you safe in low-visibility conditions
  • Elastic waist and drawcord keeps the shorts in place while you run

Wool Panty Liner Love

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I have these in a medium, and my waist is 27/28eu - or size 6. Mediums fit great, they aren't too snug, yet still stay up, on my longer running days.
What I love about them most: the completely merino wool internal liner, it's soft against my skin and I haven't had any chafing issues whatsoever. Took them out for a run last night and can't rave enough about the outer material (non-wool) polyester/elastine combo. Smartwool put the wool in all the right places and saved weight with the external short being a lighter more wicking material. Highly recommend!

My favorite summer shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I seriously love these shorts. I've been wearing them all summer. The waistband is a dream - super comfortable and flattering!

They're a little short for my preference for serious hiking, but I've worn them for trail running, lounging, errands around town, and even as board shorts over a bathing suit. They fit me well without using the drawstring (28" natural waist, 39" hips) although I did tie it while wakesurfing just to make sure they wouldn't come off.

They've been one of my favorite garments of the summer! Absolutely love them!
