I've had this vest for a few years and I pretty don't go out without it. I had the same reaction as the other reviewer when it arrived (and they're right about the lenght, and I like that), but I've learned that it is a uniquely valuable piece in the layering quiver. Highly recommended! (Came to this page because I thought I had lost it and was ecstatic to find it's still available - rare these days for a particular item of clothing to be around for more than one season - bravo SmartWool!)

Thin shell
I got the impression that being a Smartwool product that a "Merino Ultralite Vest" with "merino wool insulation" would be a wool vest. The vest is nothing more than a very thin nylon shell with a little wool at the collar. It is a nice vest, it's just not what I got out of the description. it is a bit long waisted.
