Merino 150 Baselayer

From wearing it under your favorite fleece to wearing it solo, the Smartwool Merino Men's 150 Baselayer is ready for all your activities. Its merino fabric is blended with nylon so you still get the soft merino feel and wicking properties, but with added durability to hold up to the day to day. The raglan sleeves offer great mobility and comfortable layering, while the flatlock seams prevent chafing.

  • Lightweight shirt for layering or wearing alone
  • Merino blend fabric adds durability
  • Raglan sleeve design eliminates shoulder seams
  • Flatlock seams eliminate chafing during long wears
  • Slim fit works well with layers

    Comfortable and anti-odor

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: L

Very comfortable, surprisingly durable for how thin the fabric is, and very odor resistant. I use these as baselayers when traveling or in the backcountry (e.g. multi-day yurt trips) when I want to be able to wear things a number of times without getting too smelly. Warmer than a thin polyester or nylon baselayer, but still comfortable in a wide range of temps. The long sleeve and quarter zip versions are great, too.

I'm often between a Medium and Large depending on fit and brand (5'10", 180#, wide shoulders that often don't work with slim cuts). I've found that Smartwool's slim fit is pretty skin tight in Medium, which works as a tight baselayer but not as well for casual/travel wear. These are a little loose on me in a Large (a relaxed fit, perhaps), but not too big. Smartwool also makes a 150 t-shirt that's not a slim fit (the v neck, I think)—that one is too big in a Large for me.

    Versatile Baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large

I use both the long sleeve and the short sleeve depending on the needs. Just versatile.

Kept me warm in miserable conditions

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I wore this shirt under my synthetic running singlet in this year's Boston Marathon, which experienced some of the worst running weather in history. It was cold, wet, and windy. While many people were dropping out due to hypothermic conditions, my core stayed nice and warm despite being soaked soaked through.

      Perfect

Warm, comfy, and and looks nice. A bit looser fitting the typically base layers. That's how I like it.

        How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
        Chest:
Measure under your arms, around fullest part of chest and back circumference.
        Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
        Hip:
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hip.
        Arm Length:
With elbow bent slightly, measure from center back of neck, across top of shoulder, to elbow and down to wrist bone.
        Inseam:
Measure along inside leg from crotch to ankle bone. Or using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
