Works great on the ice. I will find out how they do on the cold river days

Nice lightweight mittens
Mittens are nice and lightweight. After reading reviews I bought them thinking they were going to be more of a thicker mitten than they are. Great for milder weather but not so much in the negative temperatures of Alaska.

Nice but
I purchased these mitts based on the favorable reviews. The mitts are well constructed and should be durable. I have been trying these mitts on my morning dog walks and find that at 0 to-12 F (-18 to-25 C) these mitts do not keep my hands warm. They could use more insulation in the palms. In fairness, I have not tried these with hand warmers but rest assured that at these temperatures, I am moving right along.

Lacking in one area
I initially tried these on in a store and loved how they felt - super warm, and very lightweight and packable. I was pretty disappointed, however, when I tested them outdoors. After the first day of use the leather on the palm started peeling in a spot. The second time I wore them ice fishing it was just below zero degrees and it became apparent that there is no insulation all the way around the side panel of the mitts. There is plenty in the top and palm but I could feel the cold pouring in through the sides of the mitts, where there's just a couple thin layers of fabric. If this were corrected these would be incredible mitts but as they are I wouldn't want to wear them in any serious cold weather like they're marketed for.

The Need For Heat
I am a fisherman however I initially purchased these gloves due to my poor circulation and the fact that here in Wisconsin we have already hit 12 degrees without wind chill. I must say that I couldn't be happier with the performance thus far on hikes with my dogs. My intention is to use them when Steelheading this spring in the tributaries nearby. They would be packed as my back up gloves for the sole purpose of bringing life back to my frozen digits during a days fishing. Had a Waterproof/Gore Tex model been available, I certainly would have opted for it. Outstanding quality as usual!
