When spring flows have receded, summer temps have the bugs moving, and the fish are starting to look up, then it's time for you ditch the waders and enjoy the warm summer days with just a pair of shorts and the Simms Men's Intruder Boots. Simms designed these boots with an integrated neoprene sock to help insulate against cold river water and protect feet from bits of debris and gravel. The sole is composed of Vibram Megagrip rubber that will bite on slick river bottoms and are a part of Simms's CleanStream line of wading gear, meaning there aren't too many places for invasive organisms to hitch a ride. Accessing the best streams can mean a few extra miles spent on the trail, so Simms built the Intruder on a cushioned EVA midsole and put abrasion resistant TPU overlays in high wear areas over the synthetic upper to help extend the life of the boots.

    • Full neoprene lining

    Great quality

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Wet wading in the Summer is a dream in these boots. Very comfy and they drain super fast. I do recommend wearing a pair of socks for easier on and off due to the built-in liner. That liner does keep sand and gravel out of the footbed though which is exactly what you want. Grips great on slippery rocks.

    Hiking and Wet Wading Combo

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently began fly fishing and found myself hiking further into canyons to avoid the crowds. My waders were not designed for climbing over sharp rock and fallen trees, plus
my wading boots were not up to the task minus the waders that made them fit. Even though the Intruder boot doesn't keep my feet dry, it is remarkably comfortable hiking over rocks and inclines. The traction is exceptional and the fit is perfect. When I find myself getting hot or my feet get a little too warm, plunge them into the cool river water. I am extremely satisfied with these boots and would reccomend them to anyone who likes wet wading or wants a comfortable hiking/wading boot. They can be tricky to get on and off at times, but it could be worse.

    Great wet wade boots/Amazing Service

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a pair of Simms RiverTek BOA's I have been wearing for years. I wear them with waders and wade socks when I wet wade. This past winter, the entire sole came off and I lost it in the water, so I sent them back for repair. I needed another pair of boots for a trip coming up and I thought since we would be wet wading I would give these a shot. We fished 3 straight days. I was wading through everything from hard packed shell to knee deep mud. These boots did great. I had seen a few reviews that said the laces come untied fairly easy, so I just double knotted the laces and had no issues. I also saw a complaint about how they are difficult to put on. I agree with that a little, but I actually prefer that. The built in sock keeps small shell and other debris from entering the boot. I waded through some pretty nasty mud up to my knees and only had a small piece of shell in my boot. After wearing them from sun up to sun down for three days, my feet felt pretty good considering. The boots were out of the box new before this, and they fit great with no need for any kind of break in. The tips of my toes were a little raw towards the end of the third day, but that is to be expected. I guess if you are in and out of the water, and are constantly pulling your boots on and off, that may get old, but I slid them on in the morning, and pulled them off at the end of the day, so I was fine with that. I will still wear my RiverTeks when they get back when I wear my waders, but these are now my summer boot. They feel like an athletic hiking boot with good support, drain well, good arch support, and look pretty sharp. Thank you Simms, you have a customer for life...

Backcountry is fantastic. Caleb pinged me by email when I placed my order to offer his assistance. He also followed up with tracking and shipping info. It felt like working with a personal friend and was a one of a kind experience. I order most of my gear online and I cant remember ever getting this level of service. Since I live out of state, there was no tax and free shipping, so this was the best deal I could find on a price locked item. I will be buying from Backcountry again...

    live the dry life

love these shoes. super comfortable, feet stayed ultra warm and dry. what more do you need.

Outstanding quality, fit and performance... Only fact to note is they can be a bit of a struggle to get on if you are a bit stiff/sore from previous days for fishing... Comfort in and out of the water is outstanding all day long...

Thanks so much for the review! Hope you have many great days fishing.

      best regards,

Simms has found that people successfully size their wading boots between their street shoe size and 1 full size larger (for men). If you are a half size, then you should size up to the next full size.
