The dominant Dominator, updated.

The Sidi Dominators have, well, dominated the high-end mountain bike shoe market for an awfully long time, and it’s not just because they look great. The original Dominators were comfortable, fit a lot of people really well (average to narrow-feet, mostly), and didn’t mind being ridden hard and put away wet. One thing they weren’t great at, though, was offering any kind of grip when walking or hiking.

A couple years ago, Sidi revamped the original Dominators, naming the revision the Dominator Fit. Sidi’s focus in this revision was cyclocross, a discipline that demands an awful lot of shoes. A good ‘cross shoe has to withstand power pedaling, run-ups, mud, sand, and everything in between. The biggest change in the transition to the Fit nomenclature is the sole — the rubber’s a softer durometer now, so when you try to walk over boulders, it won’t look like a colt’s first tentative steps.

  • Racing shoes for mountain bikers and CX fiends
  • Composite sole blends stiffness with walkability
  • Ratcheting buckle closure has been tested and proven for years
  • Technomicro uppers resist stretching so they always fit just right

Very comfortable and great fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just recently purchased these shoes and they were true to size and fit. I have very flat feet that have hurt in other brands before, but I have not had any pain with these shoes. #GREATFIT

Improved over the years

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

These are my favorite go to mountain bike shoes, I have a pair that are embarrassingly old - but this pair I bought for my 13 year old son who will probably thrash them to the limit racing enduros this year. I like the improvements made to this shoe over mine like the reinforced Velcro straps and the replaceable treads.

Maybe have to get me some.

Great Fit and Last

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I say that I've put these shoes through the wringer, I mean it. These shoes have done me good. After years of riding and racing, these shoes are still going strong. Rocks, dirt, spills, the works.

As stated in the title, not only do these shoes last, but fit great. They sell this particular model in different widths which leaves out any sloppiness or tight pinching. With proper fitting comes that comfortable ride that everyone is looking for. Having a narrower foot, the regular fits great.
To top it off, these shoes are nice and stiff. The build of the composite sole matched with the ribbing on the bottom makes it. The value to durability to stiffness ratio is better than most.
Overall, the Sidi Dominator is a great choice if you are looking for a great shoe that you can get for a great price. 10/10 would recommend.

Best value/price ratio

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Regardless of these shoes being on sale or not, they offer the best value/price ratio out there. Sidi offers more expensive shoes. With those, however, top quality is expected; it shouldn't be a surprise that a shoe is good at $500.

After hearing people swear by Sidi I decided to get myself a pair. I needed something reliable on technical climbs where foot position, comfort, and responsiveness are vital. Sidi dominators are very robust in that aspect.

When I first tried them on, they seemed a little large before being tightened. But after I tied them they fit amazingly right! No movement and extremely comfortable! They also seem like they would offer decent protection.

The sole is carbon and it's great at transferring power. It might be a little slippery on wet terrain or boulders.

I have narrow/regular feet so the dominator fit was great for me. If you have slightly wider feet however, give the dominators mega a look as they can always be adjusted down.

Long time Sidi Owner

In my 18 years of riding clipless this is my third pair. With these shoes you don't need all the cable and ratcheting systems the higher models offer since the leather comforms to you.On a 5+ hour ride you'll need to re-tighten at some point.

Lost a star - in the past 3 months these shoes have see a lot of creek crossings, wet weather, and sweaty feet. With about 3 rides a week under these conditions they never really dried out and now the leather has stretched. I've had the shoes for about a year and might have killed them as they are now too big. If you buy these be warned, it's ok to get them wet but take the inserts out and stuff some paper towels in them between rides!

Great shoe but I get numb on occasion

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45

Awesome shoe that I'm sure will last forever. It has held up for over 500 miles and multiple bucket washes with no signs of wear. Feel great except for sometimes I do get numb, but I think that's just me... I feel that on a lot of shoes I've had. Love the size options and thanks CC for shipping me 4 pairs to find my fit. Great customer support!

Great Shoes

First pair of Sidi shoes. Fit like a glove and the red/white/black looks great. Sole is stiff enough for my cycling style with very good power transfer to the pedals.

Trail shoe?

Good shoe - nothing really special. They do work with my crank bro pedals. The buckle was finicky for the first 3 to four rides but now works perfectly. I wish they were a bit stiffer.

My bestie is super stoked on these

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

My best friend has been rocking her same pair of Sidi Dominators for 9 years. I gave these to her as a gift since she was definitely due for a new pair. Here's what she had to say about them:

I've had an old pair of Dominators going on 9 years now. I never imagined they'd last so long, but finally the inside of the heel is starting to give out. Having been so pleased with my last pair I was super stoked to get a new pair, I wasn't interested in trying anything new since they proved to work so well for so long.
Out of the box they seem well constructed and they fit just like my old pair, except I've obviously not broken them in yet. I'm a lady that wear size 40 and find that men's tend to be a better fit because my feet are a little wider. The fit feels identical between the shoe from 2008 and the current model. Just as expected, they were pretty comfortable on my first ride, but I will also be happy when they shape to my feet a bit more.
My favorite part of this design is how Sidi changed the release on the buckle. On my old shoes, you push the little side levers in towards your foot to release, and this was an epic pain when grass or twigs were caught underneath them. The new design has the levers pulling up so I see how the previous issue won't happen any more for me. I'm not sure if that was Sidi's intent, but I am much happier with the new buckle design.
We'll see how I feel in 8 years with these shoes, but we're off to a good start"

SIDI, You've done me wrong!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45

This was my 6th pair of SIDI's in more than 12 years of riding. Always size 45 mens regular; Dominator for MTB and Genius for Road. These past 6 pairs of shoes represent the most amazing shoe experience I've ever had. For these shoes, it's been an absolute joy to even just put them on. The supple, compliant, leather fits like a glove, the latching mechanism is simple and quick to tighten and loosen, the soles are stiff without feeling like you are wearing a pair of rocks. To add to that, they put up with wear and tear and can last more than a couple years depending on amount and type of riding.

For this model, some changes were made. First, the ratchet mechanism has become more complicated. It is now much more difficult to line up the strap with the slot, tightening them requires pulling a smaller lever, and loosening them is a lever pull vs. a push. The previous model was so simple I could do it very quickly, off the bike or in the saddle, or even blindfolded. Still, if this was the only thing that changed, I would have given them a pass and a 5 star rating.

The second thing that has changed, is that they've gone away from leather as the material for the tongue, and, I'm assuming the upper as well. This is unforgivable. The whole appeal to these ridiculously expensive shoes is that they are comfortable, compliant, performant, and fit well. They are no longer comfortable or compliant. That, in my opinion, reduces the appeal significantly and does not justify the purchase.

When I first tried them on they were very uncomfortable, but I thought they would eventually break in. I've worn them on over 20 rides, and the tongue is still stiff as cardboard, feels cheap and gouges the top of my feet.

I will say that they've managed to keep the sizing true. They still fit well, but are just uncomfortable and disappointing based on all the amazing experience I've become accustomed to.

Do yourself a favor and shop around. For my next pair, I will.

Sidi shoes haven't been made from leather in well over two decades.

Fritz that is not accurate. I still have a pair of Sidi from 2009 that are Leather. Love em

How are these with crank bros candies or egg beaters for cyclocross?

Rad shoes

I really dig these shoes and just purchased my second pair. The are super stiff and comfortable and the power transfer is fantastic. My last pair lasted about three seasons + a ton of bike commuting. I have never been a fan of BOA systems and like SIDI's ratchet and Velcro straps.

Great shoes deliver performance

Great fit. Awesome power transfer. All day comfort. Worth the $

    Went with the Mega instead

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 44

This 'fit' model just seemed too narrow so I went with the Mega (wider) version. Wouldn't really consider myself to have a wide foot. Quality was great however.

    gets the job done!

Used these a few times and they are a great all around shoe. I'd highly recommend these shoes for anyone looking to cycle or mountain bike.

thisbis my third pair only because my dog ate two other pair. I tried other brands in between but these are the only shoes that my feet don't hurt while or after the ride. Very durable and true to size

nice shoes, but not a good fit for me

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These just never agreed with my feet, which sucks because I really like the style and they seem to fit super nice. They felt too stiff for CX/gravel run-ups. On road rides, the balls of my feet would get pressure-point pain after about 10 miles. FYI I'm not a clydesdale! I thought they might wear in a bit, but they never did. My ugly el-cheapo Shimanos just feel better.

      Dad's Go-To

I got these for my pops to replace his old beat-up Sidi's , and he has no complaints. He is an avid cross-country mountain biker, and these have been the perfect shoe for him to stand up to the continual use and abuse.
In regards to fit, he says Sidi has always been the best for his more narrow foot. Tight comfortable fit that guarantees no sloshing around, and easy to ratchet down.
This is his second (maybe third?) pair of the Dominator 5s, with how highly he speaks of them I'm not sure he'll ever make the switch to another pair!

      The best

fit, finish, feel, all top notch. not a single complaint

Are the lugs replaceable on this model?

Hello Jason, No they are not replaceable.
