    XT PD-M8040 Pedals

It seems like more and more trail and enduro riders are using platform pedals to get the job done on technical trails. And it makes sense, flats allow for a bit more body English to navigate through crux moves and the ability to quickly separate yourself from the machine if things go awry. So, if you're in the camp of flat pedals win medals, or you're just dabbling with the idea of running quality platforms without having to invest too heavily, check out the XT PD-M8040 Pedals from Shimano and prepare to look at the trail in a different way.

Shimano uses a concave design, in aluminum, with ten pins on each side, in two different length options, that provides a large, aggressive, platform for maximum grip on the soles of your shoe. The other unique feature is that Shimano offers two sizes: a SM that comes in at 100 x 105mm and optimized for a 36-43 shoe size and a ML measuring 110 x 115mm and recommended for a 43-48 shoe size. Pair this thoughtful sizing structure with Shimano's sealed cartridge bearings offering super smooth spinning and a durable chromoly spindle, and you end up with a pedal that's as ready as you are to charge challenging terrain.

    • A platform pedal for technical trails and enduros
    • Concave design boosts grip
    • Aluminum body and chromoly spindle balance weight and durability
    • 10 replaceable traction pins are offered in low and high heights
    • Choose between SM and ML based on your shoe size

    Pins Breaking

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just spoke with a customer who used these pedals and he had some useful information to share about these:

"They are way to thick and I'm not sure why, I'm sure Shimano has their reason, but you have to put the pins in from the top. Meaning, every pin that breaks, you just lost the ability to use an Allen key to get it out because the head isn't on the bottom like most other pedals I didn't know that going into it. I Figured Shimano makes good stuff, I would try them out. But I've already broken many pins and I just don't like that. "
