    This was the best bb upgrade, smooth and quite.. no creaking. Easy to install... I must have about 3000 miles on it with no issues.

    Great Value

      Will be using this bb for a rebuild project using a full Ultegra mechanical group. This is for a carbon threaded bb shell and will work perfectly.

      I have an Italian threaded BB and there aren't many options for me, since most threaded options are for English thread. But the Ultegra BB is not only cheap but Friction Facts rated the drag resistance as even better than the Dura Ace BB. Not that it's much difference but the point is that this bottom bracket does what it's supposed to do. It's also easy to install. Once it's ruined, throw away and replace. No fuss. Sometimes I'm tempted to splurge on a higher end model like Ceramic Speed, who do make Italian threaded BBs, but there just isn't enough benefit to justify the cost so I always go back to Ultegra.

      I deducted one star for the plastic tool, which as noted in a review below gets stripped very easily. But it's not a deal-breaker for me.

      This thing is awesome. 15 bucks for a high quality steel bearing bottom bracket that lasts for a REALLY long time as long as you don't over preload the crank when installed. It is backwards compatible with all hollowtech 2 road spindles.

      Easy installation, works as it should. Over 8,000 miles of commuting miles in all types of weather (lots of rain here in Nor Cal this year) and still smooth running with no notable play.

      tool that comes with is terrible

      the plastic tool that comes with to install is junk. it shreds under the required install torque. awful situation with a new bracket that has to be removed and cleaned (because it now has plastic shavings inside) and no way to take it off other than buying another tool, which appears reliable, but costs an additional $55.

        You don't have a ton of choices when it comes to BBs on a threaded bike, when using shimano cranks. That doesn't matter here. Shimano BBs have nearly always been top notch, and this is no exception. The BB will spin smooth as long as you have the bike (given that you properly maintain it and don't ride through the river). Watch high pressure hoses when cleaning your bike, and all of your bearings and moving parts will thank you.

        I bought one of these for routine replacement of my bottom bracket. Shimano alleges that the drag from the seals was 50% less etc.... I was surprised to find out when it was installed that it was noticeably easier to spin the cranks and even more so that it was noticeable during riding.

        What is not clear is that all of the new Shimano bottom brackets are different sizes and require different tools to install. This is not spelled out clearly by Shimano although they do include a plastic insert that will fit the old size bottom bracket tool. This is not a great solution since the plastic wants to strip when you tighten the bottom bracket to the 35-40nm torque spec. So do be careful when tightening. An even better strategy would be to get the right tool. That also is not clear, but it is the BBT-59 from Park Tool - which I discovered after calling them directly.

        Bottom line - I really like this bottom bracket and would recommend it.

        John, this information is just what I was looking for. My son has stripped the plastic Shimano adapter and your post is a God send. He is having issues with a creaking sound and in trying to diagnosis where it's coming from , he has encountered all kinds of issues.         Mary Ann - I think you are on to the problem. I was not able to get the bottom bracket tightened to the top of the range recommended by Shimano with the plastic insert and I did have some creaking after riding for a few days. I then got the tool listed from Park, removed the bottom bracket and re-greased all the threads, reinstalled the crank and then tightened all crank bolts to the high end of the recommended settings after tightening the bottom bracket to the top end of the setting. Since then, no issues. I have this bottom bracket now on three bikes all following the same procedure with the same good results.

        I like this bottom bracket and we'll see how it holds up. But for what it costs, it's not a big issue to replace it. It's definitely an upgrade over the prior versions.
