Routine maintenance.

If you find yourself with a desire to spend an afternoon replacing your aging shift or brake cables at home, you're going to need Shimano's TL-CT12 Cable Cutter to get started. Updated slightly from the previous version, the TL-CT12 boasts sharper blades and improved longevity compared to its predecessor, and its chrome-plated carbon steel construction gives it rigidity while you work and the assurance that it'll be a tool you can keep around in your bench for a while. The TL-CT12 also features a built-in crimper and a needle for reshaping the housing after cutting. Shimano specifically shaped the handle opening and handles themselves to make using the cable cutter easy on your hands.

Shimano cable cutters

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I used this type of cable cutters in my shop and now that I am retired I use them at home and doing charity events. They do a better and cleaner cut than Park Tools and I can clean up the spiral wire of brake housing. The only ones I use.

Decent Cutters

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

They worked very well for a re-cabling project without any signs of slowing down. There are some multi-function aspects like a spot to make the cut round again behind the hinge. The feel of the tool doesn't say $60, but truck stop bargain bin. The performance is good. I expect it to continue to perform well for many more cuts. We'll see. The problem with cutters is when they go, they're gone.
