Why We Like The IC5 Cycling Shoe

Indoor training breaks a different kind of sweat from life on the road, and handling the heat of a spin class full of other bodies can be trying. Shimano aims to make it a little easier with the IC5 Cycling Shoe. The IC5 — short for Indoor Cycling — are built with ultra-breathable uppers constructed like sock mesh for improved ventilation on hard workouts. This sock mesh allows cool air to permeate inside, while sweat is actively wicked away, allowing you to stay cooler and more comfortable when your heart rate is soaring, and you're dreaming of summer miles pedaling in the outdoors. Since the shoes are built for indoors, Shimano decks out the sole with rubber along the entire length, which improves your grip on hard gym floors, while a full-length reinforced plate provides stable power transfer. The majority of pedals you'll find at spin classes utilize a two-bolt SPD cleat, so rather than the standard road 3-bolt cleat, these are equipped with multiple placement points for a 2-bolt, allowing you to easily saddle up without fussing when it's class time.

Love them!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Oh my goodness. I have casually done indoor spin classes for the past few years but always rented shoes as I couldn't justify buying them when I could just rent for free. Recently I decided I wanted my own shoes and was dead set on getting TIEMs but then decided I wanted something with a little more structure and with a BOA dial since my current studio's shoes have them and I have found them useful. I ordered the purple in these shoes and y'all...when I opened the box and saw the color, I was in LOVE. I used them for the first time today and was so pleasantly surprised at how comfy they were. I normally wear a 7.5-8 (even up to 8.5 in running shoes). Per the size chart, I ordered a 40, and it fits perfectly! I was actually worried it would be too small when I first put them on with my athletic socks (Balega), which are thicker than regular ones. Was totally fine during class! Also, I'm used to using delta clips, but these require SPD clips. For some reason, I found them way easier to clip out of the bike with than the delta clips, so that's also a huge win in my book. Super happy with my purchase and can't wait to continue using them!

Comfiest cycling shoe ever!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

My husband and I have been road cycling for roughly 10 years. During that time I have owned 6 pairs of cycling shoes and had just accepted that all cycling shoes are uncomfortable. I saw these in a Backcountry ad and thought I'd give them a go as the price tag was reasonable and I hoped the Boa dial would provide customized adjustment. They arrived quickly and when I slipped them on I was amazed by how comfy they were and that the Boa dial let me easily adjust them to just the right snugness. Honestly, when we are cycling I am not even aware that I am wearing them. Another nice feature is their airiness which keeps my feet from sweating and they dry out quickly when we get caught in the rain. I am so in love with these shoes I just ordered a second pair so I will have these for years to come.
