Cushioning the ride.

For those looking for a reasonably priced saddle with plenty of cushion, a central pressure-relief channel, and a fairly wide platform, Selle SMP's TRK saddle answers the call.

The TRK is best suited for cyclists with medium-wide and wide pelvises, as it features a longer and wider body, with more padding, than other models in this range. At the nose, there's the characteristic "beak" shape designed to provide a flat base while sitting, without excessive pressure on the genital area. SMP's pronounced central channel was also incorporated, which further reduces pressure on the pudendal nerve and surrounding soft tissue. The back of the saddle is raised for an enhanced seated pedaling position, where body weight is divided between the rear and lower part of the ischial tuberosity region. This shape also helps reduce overall pressure on the coccyx while riding over rough surfaces.

The saddle's generous foam elastomer padding gets wrapped in a durable Lorica microfiber. Its nylon composite shell rides on stainless steel rails, ensuring a secure perch that'll hold up for both road and mountain applications.

The Selle SMP TRK Man is available in one size (280 x 160mm) and in the color Black. It is handmade in Italy and has a claimed weight of 359 grams.

Perineal pain? This could be the cure

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have always liked harder saddles, and this is not hard, but about 5 years ago at age 70, I started experiencing perineal numbness. Went through old Avocet Touring, Fizik Aliante, Brooks Imperial, and ISM Perf 1 (IIRC). The TRK was the first one that allowed me to rid 50 miles without numbness or pain. At the time of this writing, Backcountry is selling the TRK (and other Selle SMPs) at a great price. It's a low cost way to see if Selle SMP's solution works for you. It's worked for me for over 2500 miles.

Soft saddle

I bought one of these for my road bike, liked it so I bought one for the mountain bike. It's longer and wider than the original seat. I haven't tried it in the dirt yet. so don't know if the size will be an issue but it's comfortable around town.

I bought a new bike and couldn't handle the rock hard seat it came with. Put this on and can ride 50 plus miles with out pain. Maybe not the highest quality but for the price it's great.

      Very comfortable saddle

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Over the summer I have lost over 35 pounds. I needed a more comfortable saddle. This fits me very well. I rode a century the second time on this saddle and had no soreness of my backside. I have used it for about 400 miles so far and still going great.
