Why We Like The Force V Climbing Shoe

Slip into Scarpa's Force V Climbing Shoe when you start tackling overhung climbs whether you're bouldering or sport climbing. An ideal introduction to the steeps, this flat climbing kicker has a comfortable asymmetry so you don't feel pain while you learn how to fight gravity. Scarpa left the smooth, soft, stretchy suede leather upper unlined for a conforming fit. Underfoot, the Force V features a sensitive Flexan midsole and Vibram's XS Edge rubber at the sole for optimized traction and long-lasting durability.

  • Ideal introduction for sport climbing and bouldering steep climbs
  • Flat with a comfortable asymmetrical curvature
  • Unlined suede stretches to conform to your foot
  • Sensitive Flexan midsole with thick Vibram XS Edge rubber sole

Comfy Climbin'

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I grabbed these as a more lowkey shoe to wear when I am feeling lowkey (I am in a pair of very aggressive shoes right now) and have not been disappointed. These are a great addition to my outdoor arsenal; their lack of major stiffness but maintained gripping ability is a blessing after a full day in high flex ski boots.

Great for beginners/ V0-V3 climbs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

First off these shoes are so comfortable!! Compared to a lot of climbing shoes these are by far the easiest on my feet. They've got a slight downturn, which is good for gripping and getting good traction for getting your toe into smaller footholds, but they won't kill your feet if you are wearing them for a long period time and they are comfortable to stand in.

I use them for bouldering inside the gym and the rubber grips really well and didn't slip at all while smearing.
I went down half a shoe size and that seems to be the best fit for me!

Solid Beginner Shoe

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Got these for a friend new to climbing. When you get the right size, they are snug, but unrestrictive, which gives new climbers the opportunity to learn to trust their toes without feeling like they're having their feet bound. Velcro straps make it easy to get these off and on, but offers less fit customization than a laced shoe would.

Best for Beginners

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are definitely a high quality shoe from Scarpa. They're very comfortable and easy for beginners. I need something with a bit more overhang in a moderate-level shoe. Great for learning but not so much for taking it up a notch at the gym.

Still new

I have only used these at the gym once. They are just breaking in so my feet hurt pretty bad after a few climbs but that’s expected. The sole seems to stick indoors well and I was able to edge good. I haven’t had these outside yet but am excited to use them more

    Great shoe for beginners.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am recently getting into climbing and the times that I had climbed in the past I had always had to borrow my friend's shoes. Anyways I usually wear a size 11 and he wears a 9 or something. So obviously my first experiences with climbing shoes were that they are super tight fitting, and "it's supposed to hurt a little".
When Scarpa came in to give us a little clinic I decided to try them on. The rep recommended the size 45.0. I was surprised as to how well they fit and how comfortable they were. My toes were curled over just enough but they weren't so tight that it hurt to wear the shoes or climb with.
I am loving the fit and how comfortable they feel. I have tried other shoes on like the Evolv Shaman's and the Evolv Nighthawks and the sizing no what I tried was just not right for me but the Force V's seem to fit my foot almost perfectly, with the other shoes there was a little between my foot and the sole in the middle of the shoes. With the Scarpa's it is such a good fit that it almost creates a seal on my fit. And they feel so close to my feet. I would recommend these to anyone. For me, the sizing was spot on but I would recommend trying on your street shoe size and a half size down.

Update: After about 2 weeks of somewhat daily use, they seem to have grown more comfortable and have stretched just a little bit.

    Great First Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just started climbing a few months ago and have been using these shoes inside and outside and love them. They fit my funky and temperamental ankles where a lot of other shoes put too much pressure on the back of my heel. I really like the soft feel and small amounts of cushion throughout the back of the shoe. I have a nasty scar from my Achilles Tendon Surgery a couple years ago, and I needed a shoe that would be forgiving while I trained and grew in strength. I am so happy with these shoes and feel that after wearing them in, they just keep getting better!

Initial impressions - best first shoe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Disclaimer: I'm a super beginner (climbed 2-3 times) but I take new sports very seriously and read a lot about gear to make sure I buy the right thing that will help me progress.
I had a super hard time finding a shoe that'd fit. I tried like a dozen models and I thought something was wrong either with my feet (street size 11.5 US egyptian foot) or with larger sizes of every manufacturer - nothing I tried according to manufacturers' guidelines (or even half a size up) would fit. Or I thought that my understanding of "fit" was poor and that it should really be painful (even though all the articles and people told me that it should not be painful, I thought maybe the understanding of pain was different for climbers)
Out of frustration, I tried a slightly more expensive shoe (of size 11 and 2/3 haha nice one Scarpa) - and oh my, it clicked instantly, I understood right away that this is the fit everyone describes as perfect - tight but not painful, with the big toe touching and feeling springy but not too curled, and I can really feel that all of my foot's strength is focused in the toe area.
I tried these shoes for 2 hours in the gym (bouldering and climbing) and was very impressed how I was able to stand on very small holds and how secure I felt, compared to rental shoes (evolv) I used before. The shoes definitely need some breaking in as I had to take them off a few times because of some pain in the middle of the foot (perhaps due to the shape of the sole), but other than that I feel that it's gonna enable me to progress really well and will be the most comfortable as it breaks in a little.

    The right fit!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My GF and I were having an incredibly hard time finding a shoe that fit for her, she has a slightly wider foot than most women I guess. Finally, after a recommendation from a fellow gearhead, we convinced her to try a men's shoe and she actually loved the fit on these. The slightly wider last is perfect for her foot and it is a shoe that she can climb in all day. Colors are very gender neutral so there is no problem at all really. Great shoe for everyone!

    Successful First Climb

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got these shoes for my brother who is relatively new to climbing and needed a second pair of shoes while his first pair is being re-soled. He wanted to give a pair with a hook-and-loop closure style a try since his other pair are lace-ups. He was able to try them out recently right out of the box at the granite slabs of Donner Summit, before winter sets in. He enjoyed the ease with which he could put them on, and mentioned that he preferred the hook and loop closure to lace-ups because they were easier to adjust. Mostly he was stoked about how "grippy" they felt on the thin granite footholds. He is looking forward to his next opportunity to get out and use them!

    So far so good!

I bought these shoes for myself because A.) I have big feet for a woman (I wear a 41) and B.) I hate all the colors that are used in women's shoes. I love these shoes. They are an awesome neutral beginner shoe. I originally had La Sportiva Tarantulace in women's and I felt like I just kept slipping off the wall. With these, the grip is much better and I feel way more stable. They are also way more comfortable. I highly recommend these for anyone just beginning or looking for a more neutral type of climbing shoe. Happy climbing!
