Bag design
This is not a serious hiking shoe, or for "chunky trails." The soles are thin and too flexible (more flimsy than even my running shoes). I can feel every rock and get arch fatigue after just a few miles even without much weight in my pack. If the trail is even slightly dusty or damp they lose traction. The ankle has too much flexibility for good support. These are like hiking in a bedroom slippery (but not in a good way). Works not recommend.

Great hiking boots
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I was initially worried that they felt too big, as they are very roomy in the toe area, but now I love that about them. It's nice to be able to move your toes around and not feel squished in a boot. I am definitely a Salomon fan now! Note: I often wear two pair of socks anyways on hikes (my daily ankle socks and a pair of thicker hiking socks) and always add a plantar fasciitis heel orthotic to every shoe/boot I own. They are the lightest boot I've ever owned and very comfortable, even on the first hike. I've had them for 6 months and put around 250 miles on them (so mostly summer/fall hiking) but have not used them in snow yet. They do keep your feet dry in wet conditions. The reason I only gave them a 4 out of 5 is for these two things: The sole is not as thick as other boots I've owned, so if you're hiking on smaller/sharp gravel for lengthy periods, you can feel some of that through your boots. Not in a way that hurts, just more noticeable than thicker soled boots I've owned. I also feel like they are more slippery than my last boot, on terrain such as wet/muddy rocks.

Love these

Obsessed with these. Barely needed to break them in. They?ve been with me in all different weather in Co, ak & ut They were warm enough for winter hikes in co with deeper snow and my feet stayed warm and dry and they were light enough for ut hot summer.

To hike or not to hike?
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
With the Vaya's extreme comfort, get ready to roll on and off the trail as you please without even noticing you haven't switched shoes. Upon arrival, I was stunned at how light these hikers were. Their weight combined with instant comfort (I didn't really need to break them in at all!) and goretex outer makes them a great option for those shoulder season mud hikes as well as in-town slush-slaying moseys. I've come to love the color gradient of the shoes. Fit is true to size and if I had another pair I'd surely give them to my best friend.
