SalomonSoft Flask 250ml - 8oz

Better than a bendy straw.

While the Salomon Soft Flask doesn't make the same nifty noises as a bendy straw, it comes awfully close in the super-cool department. This soft water bottle compresses as you suck in fluids and won't leak when you cram it into your pack. You've to bite on the spout before any water comes out. And, given that it comes in three sizes, you'll be able to stay sated whether you're walking the dog or hiking in the heat of summer.

Why did I buy this?

My initial impressions were skeptical because it was smaller than I wanted, but now that I’ve used it, I see why people love them. It’s small enough to keep in a pocket when getting to a pack isn’t that easy. They don’t leak. I put a hydration mix in mine and use it when I’m in a time crunch. I love this thing!

A perfect solution for hydration on extended runs. The 250ml size fits well into the chest pockets of my running vest and avoid the slosh effect all too common to bigger vessels.

The neck of the flask is relatively small, so can be cumbersome to refill mid-race if you're in the thick of things. Overall though, a really slick piece of kit to keep your mind on the trail, not your bottles.

Good for electrolyte mixes or as a reserve. Easy to clean and manage. No leaking so far (75+mi).

Can I store whisky or other alcohol in this?

These things are fantastic. Even better that the water doesn't slosh around as you drink. I do find it interesting that backcountry.com advertises these as 16oz but they say 17oz on them...

Is the opening large enough to put a Steripen in and stir it around?

Stirring is going to be tricky, but the opening will accommodate it. Luckily you don't need to stir much with such a small container, so it should work fine.

I purchased this because I was tired of the klunky molded water bottles. I use this with the Solomon gloves. Great water despensing system (bite). I usually freeze 50% full of liquid hours before to act as ice cube when conditions warrant. Used it about 10 times so far and find it meets my expectations and needs. Very durable.
