Bullet train.

Now that the snow is thawing in the mountains, it's time to lace up the Salewa Men's Lite Train Trail Running Shoe and get those legs back in shape. It strikes the ideal balance between grip, durability, lightness, and breathability to help you get back into mid-season form in no time.

The 3F Total System connects to the shoe's lacing area to ensure optimal comfort, stability, and increased foot control where you need it most. The sole and midsole work in harmony to promote natural foot movement and provide dependable sure-footedness over any terrain. Michelin's Lite Train outsole features a special rubber compound and aggressive outsole to deliver perfect grip on mud, rock, grass, snow, or any other surface you come across. Lastly, the breathable mesh upper and lining allows efficient airflow to keep your feet cool and dry when you're tackling long distances.

Good light weight trail shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 42

After 2 short break-in runs I took the shoes up two Colorado peaks, St. Vrain Mtn at 12,100 and Meadow Mtn at 11,700. 9.3 miles round trip and 3700 feet of gain/loss. The traction was excellent on the steep uphill hiking, off-trail/talus hiking, and downhill running. The shoe had just enough support and cushioning on the steep, technical downhill running. My 51 year old feet, knees, hips, and back felt great at the end of the adventure. Looking toward Long's Peak from the summit of St. Vrain Mtn.

Big fan

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10

Big fan of these shoes and they have held up well after a summer of good work on PNW trails. Good traction and fun for scrambles. The notable downside to lightweight shoes like this is that if you descend quickly and rock hop like me, I have found that I can feel sharp rocks in my heals more than with heavier shoes. I don't think that applies to most people (unless you hunt out off-trail peaks that gain 2K feet per mile) and I certainly expected that to be the case given the weight. They also look sweet and are fun to run in around town.

Right on! Stoked you love these. Thanks for the review, George!

So far so good

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 11.5

I've never been much of a runner. After a self realization of my lack of cardio-specific exercise, I decided to merge that with my passion for outdoors. Now I actually look forward to trail running because of these! The moment they slid onto my (very average shaped) foot, they conformed to my anatomy and fit perfect. They're super light, comfortable, and look good too. I wouldn't recommend them for someone with a wide foot, as they are more of a narrow fit. Looking forward to more adventures with these on!

Great Light backpacker

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 12

I bought these as part of my gradual transition from hiking boots to approach shoes (previously used Wildfire GTX) to trail runners for backpacking. First use was 22 miles in two days through bogs and mud in Dolly Sods with a full pack the shoes worked great in the mud and no blisters even though I didn't really have time to break them in. Performed well soaked from stream crossings and mud.

Just a note that the color looks better in person and is more blue than the picture.

Not for wide feet ...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Size 8

If you have wide feet, best to give a pass on this.

I wear size 8 running shoes (in New Balance and Nike) with no issues. This one runs a bit tight - though I must say I like the fit.
