Small and lightweight in your pack, but a reliable shelter for the longest trails.

Successful thru-hikers slim down their packs with an ultralight, versatile shelter like the Rab Siltarp2 2-Person tarp. This tarp protects you and your hiking mate from light rain and heavy summer dew.

    • At only 13 ounces, this 8 x 10ft tarp provides up to 80sq ft of coverage from the elements for two or three people on ultralight trips
    • Silicone-impregnated ripstop Cordura (30D) fabric sheds rain and provides incredible strength for its weight
    • Multiple webbing loops let you set the tarp up in a variety of configurations with guylines (not included) and trekking poles or trees
    • Corners and center loops feature Hypalon reinforcement to ensure durability in windy conditions
    • Stuff sack included so you have a safe place to store your tarp in your backpack

    Great weight/price ratio

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Took this on a 7-day speed hike of the JMT and had no issues. As long as you set it up right, you can protect 1 person pretty well from rain as long as it's not blowing in sideways. Definitely follow the other reviewers' suggestion and apply silicone sealant to the center seam, though - RAB gave me some for free, though I imagine that stuff is cheap and you could get anywhere.

    Great weight/price ratio

    Nice tarp

Good size but is wider than long. With line locks, guys and stakes mine is 18oz. Good build quality

    Who Needs a Tent?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Super light, compact, waterproof, tough, and plenty of tie-downs for endless shelter configurations. Just bring along your paracord and creativity!

I've constructed many different shelters with this and slept through pouring rain and dumping snow without ever fearing leakage. Worth having along even on day hikes to whip up an impromptu rain shelter! This is a perfect product any outdoorsman should have.

    Quality made lightweight tarp.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is my first Rab product and was impressed by the quality of something so simple. Design is made to minimize weight but provide robust tie out points. The corner tie outs have rubber patches sewn on to reinforce them and tie out loops are double over nylon straps. Five tie outs on each side and one in the center. Stitching was perfect all the way around but not seam sealed although if you call Rab customer service they will send you seam sealer. Wish the center tie outs were reinforced though.

    Quality made lightweight tarp.

    terrible stitching, do not buy!!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This tarp is horribly made, while the corner and center guy out points are reinforced, the midway one are not, and the quickly ripped the silnylon. Also, in one of the corners, there is a black triangle with the RAB logo, and the stitching along the inside edge ripped right off! All of this happened in one night

    Killer tarp!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought the siltarp3 three years ago, when the company was owned by Integral Designs. I used it as my shelter for my 500-mile thru hike on the Colorado Trail. It is lightweight and super waterproof (kept me dry during some wild Colorado thunder storms).

Recently ordered and received the siltarp2. It smaller and lighter, but the same high quality material. There are three tie-outs on each side, one at each corner, and one in the center of the ridge line (17 total), which is information I couldn't find online before ordering.

I was also surprised that it didn't include the seam sealant, like my previous tarp did. I called backcountry.com, and they gave me the number for Rab USA. The guy I talked to at RAB said he would put some sealant in the mail for me today.

Overall, great product. Highly recommended for lightweight backpacking or ultralight thru hiking.
