Brion Short

The prAna Brion Shorts utilize crazy-tough nylon to keep you covered in outdoor conditions where cotton might rip, tear, or just leave you feeling sweaty or soggy. Durable construction means these shorts will stand up to desert excursions and deep-forest bushwhacking. Plus, thanks to their laid-back five-pocket design you'll look good when you're hanging out around town, too.

  • Abrasion-resistant, quick-drying nylon can stand up to aggressive encounters with rock faces and tree branches while a bit of Lycra adds flexibility
  • DWR finish repels moisture so you won't get soggy in a drizzle
  • Standard fit is balanced, not too tight and not too baggy
  • Five-pocket styling with rivet reinforcements adds a classic look

Poor Durability

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32x11

I have worn these shorts for about 7 months. The amount of pilling on loose threads on these shorts is surprising. I had higher expectations. I have worn the shorts primarily as casual wear, with some hiking and climbing as well. Particularly given that they haven't seen much abrasion I am very disappointed with the excessive wear.

Very comfortable shorts, but I cannot recommend and will not buy again.

The photo provides a representation of what the shorts look like, though I think it looks worse in person.

Great quality for the price

Very pleased with this. I get extra discount from here: coupon-bird.com

    Not Durable At All

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 34

I did a lot of research on these before buying. The reviews were great. I swallowed the blue pill and bought three pairs. Wow, what a disappointment.

If tofu and tissue paper had a baby, this would be their offspring. I've hardly worn these (wash on delicate, line dry) and they're already showing signs of wear on the legs. There's also a lot of pilling.

Seriously, for this price, you should be getting a lot higher quality. I've bought shorts from Goodwill for a couple bucks that were higher quality than these.

Bottom Line: I have no idea who's writing these reviews (Prana bloggers?), but these are the least durable shorts I've ever owned. I'm actually afraid of hiking in them.

Please don't waste your money. You've been warned. Oh, and btw, the sizing is very inconsistant. So, don't expect to get the sizing right the first (or possibly second) time.

Update: I talked to Prana corporate. They said to contact Backcountry and ask for a refund. I then contacted Backcountry and they indicated that since they're used and outside the 30-day return window, I'd have to contact Prana. Prana said that they'd only provide a partial refund for the lowest sale price on record. I asked for an exchange instead. They said, "We don't do that." So, I'd have to return them, receive a partial refund, then pay full price for something else on the Prana website. No refund, no exchange. Wow. Prana is owned by Columbia. I've been a loyal customer of Columbia for decades. Unfortunately, more and more apparel companies are acting like this. So, be warned. This is how Prana treats their customers. Profits over quality and customer loyalty.

    These pants Rock

The material is sturdy enough yet not too hot on those uber warm days. They feel indestructible but look very nice and not out of place in a classy setting. i should by more colorways of these!

These things are great! From the Zion stretch fabric to the fit, finish and style. I like them so much I got them in an assortment of colors.

      Great Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 33

love these shorts. more fitted than the zions i had for years. good for the trail, then straight to cocktails!

Perfect for climbing and everything else

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Basically the best climbing shorts I've ever owned. Got the 11" inseam which is perfect, I don't want to be that dude with really short shorts at the gym. Great for lead or bouldering, high-stepping is not a problem with the flexible material. They seem durable. I like that there are no cargo pockets so getting a harness on/off is no problem. I started wearing them most days and will probably get more.

Perfect shorts. I have 3 pairs.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These look like classic 5 pocket shorts, but are way more comfortable with the stretch fabric and gusseted crotch. I have 3 pairs and wore these almost everyday this past spring and summer.

      Replaces all others!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 33

Fantastic cut and fit there's nothing I'd rather wear in warm weather! They will pill a little bit but are easy to remove. I plan to use these for hiking, travelling and everyday of the summer.

      Comfortable

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I like these shorts because they're durable and comfortable. I wear them when I climb and they seem to handle rock abrasion well.

      Holy Shorts Batman

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 32x11

These are downright the BEST shorts I have ever owned. full stop. climb, run, ride, go on dates you can do any thing in these AND be super comfortable and stylish. I seriously can't say enough good things. I'm Just slowly replacing all my shorts with different colors of these. I normally have problems finding shorts that fit without a belt or in general as a very athletic 6' 185 lbs normally the thighs are FAR too tight or the waist is too large. These have none of those problems.

      Perfect

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 36

I’m a full figured guy and sometimes my hips don’t fit where my waist wants so shorts can be difficult. I’m on the fence between 36/38 most of my life. These are on the bigger side, or stretchy and more forgiving. If your in between size down!

      Great shorts

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 35X11

I was needing to replace some equivalent Patagonia shorts. These are a better length and a more durable material. They're not heavy, but they have some heft to them. The form and fit are perfect.

      Perfect Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 32x9

I own several pairs of these - perfect for hiking or casual wear, perfect fit (I'm nearly 6' tall and the 9" hit right above knee).

      Great Great shorts

      • Size Bought: 36 inch waist

I have 3 pair of these shorts. They are great for casual wear or activities- hiking,... the ,arterial stretches and there is a gusseted crotch, so no bunching or tight feeling when being active one pair is the 11 inch and the other 2 are the 9 inch length- both are ok, but I would be fine with 10 inch length. I compared to s fall other brands- Kuhl, and others and I like these much better

      The reviews are correct: AWESOME!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

Not much I can say others have not already. These shorts fit well. Perform well. And last through some a tough situations. Buy one pair and you will purchase more.

      Great Shorts. Love the Stretch.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

These shorts have a bit of stretch to them which makes them really comfy. If I had it to do over again I might have ordered them one size smaller as the stretch would account for the smaller waist size.

Best Shorts I Have Ever Owned!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

These are seriously the best shorts ever! I never had shorts that had a bit of stretch to them and I'm now sold. I own 3 pairs now. You won't be disappointed with these!

      Great shorts, check stitching quality

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 34

I own 3 pairs of these shorts as well as 4 pairs of the pants version. The stretch fabric, larger gusset, and water repellant finish are all great and make for an extremely versatile and comfortable pant. The only issue I've seen with all of the pairs I have is that occasionally some of the stitching on the seams has been defective on arrival for one pair and wore prematurely on a second. Not a huge deal, but definitely keep an eye out for it when you first get them. Overall though, I'm a huge fan and will keep buying more.

      Love these shorts.

Super comfy and you can tell the quality is great. Fits nicely.

      How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
      Chest:
Place the tape measure under the arms and around the fullest part of your chest, with arms raised slightly.
      Waist:
      Measure around the natural waistline.
      Inseam:
Grab your favorite pair of jeans/pants. Measure the inseam of these pants starting at the crotch seam to the bottom of the pant leg (round to the nearest 1/2 inch).
      Sleeve Length:
With your hands on your hips, measure from the center of your back neck, across your shoulder and down the outside of your arm to the wrist bone.
