POC Trabec Race Helmet
POCTrabec Race Helmet

More protection for race day.

POC makes the Trabec in a few versions, including the Race version you see above. This version gets more Aramid netting buried within the EPS foam, which means it’s even less likely to break apart upon initial impact than the regular Trabec. What else makes the Trabec different? It starts with the shape — if there’s nothing there, how can it protect you? The Trabec extends much further down the neck and the sides of your head than other helmets, which means better protection even at the most basic level. POC’s aramid structure inside the foam, which holds the foam together in the event of an impact like rebar in concrete, and the super-tough polycarbonate shell that disperses impact force across the EPS foam to reduce the amount of impact your dome has to handle, are the helmet equivalent of a seven-inch bike you can pedal anywhere.

  • Expanded Aramid net inside EPS foam layer
  • Super-tough polycarbonate shell
  • 16 vent holes
  • Adjustable visor
  • Extended protection over typical helmets
  • Adjustable fit system

great gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

what an awesome helmet! looks great, feels great, works great. happy biking!

good coverage so I think good protection

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M/L

a bit snug compared to my other L helmet size. like the look and the bill does seem to protect my eyes from glare. can be a bit warm on hot days.

a favorite

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've owned a few of the poc helmets now for road and bought this for my son (his pick). He swears it's been his favorite helmet yet, yea he's only 15 but he's been through several. He says it's very comfortable on and of course loves the look. POC makes safe and quality stuff so I trust it completely.

Good helmet ride

am delighted to receive the goods.
    I like it so much.
I bought it through foreign direct drive.
    Everybody ride safe riding rides.
꼭 가지고 싶던 헬멧입니다. 좋은가격으로 구입을 해서 너무나 기쁘다

    Good helmet ride

    Job well done

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The helmet looks awesome and is extremely comfortable. I already fell straight on my head as I went otb and it did what it's supposed to. I'm impressed. Always poc for me

    Poor strap to shell attachment

Two weeks in to owning this helmet, the strap pulled out of the shell up front and I have ridden it with duct tape for over a year now because they are so expensive.

I looked on their POC's warranty page and they say I am supposed to contact the retailer, so I called backcountry and they just gave me an email address for POC (fail). I found a phone number for POC in Utah so I called POC about the issue and no one ever decided I was worth calling back.

My head protected this helmet in a crash

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I love the look of this helmet. The colors, the styling, and it looks like a helmet that would be super safe, given the huge amount of coverage.

Unfortunately, I found out after a crash that the helmet decided to save itself by letting my head suffer. My front wheel went sideways at the bottom of a long, steep descent and I went over the bars at quite some speed. I knocked my head hard enough that it was a good minute and a half before I knew where I was and what I was doing.

All that's possible with any helmet, but what stood out for me is this helmet looks completely undamaged. I've crashed in plenty of other helmets (motorcycle, road, and MTB), always with no head injury, but almost always with significant damage to the helmet. The helmet should protect your head by breaking. I cracked a Catlike Whisper in six places after a bad crash but my head was no worse for wear. I went out and bought another Whisper the next day. Unfortunately this POC Trabec Race is going in the garbage and I'm not getting another. Good looks are not worth my health (or possibly my life).

      rookie review

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

give i am new to the mtb scene there probably is not too much importance to my review but i will say i love this helmet!
it fits right, fits tight and makes me feel extra protected when i am on the track. can confirm the breathability that was mentioned by others. it does get hot and sweaty under this one, yet at the same time it feels like it wont just fall apart when you fall over therefore i don't care if i sweat.
      would buy it again!

      Unanswered Question

I have this helmet, and it's awesome! One thing: Is it possible to get replacement liners? If so, where? I can't seem to find any online.
      Thanks

Finally upgraded, very happy I did!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I haven't bought a new bike helmet in a long time. This year, I decided it was finally time. I love the Trabec Helmet! Whether I am riding dirt or road, this guy gets the job done. I haven't taken a digger yet, but I expect any Poc product to hold up. More vents would make the helmet cooler, but would take away the style, so I can deal!

      Love the Trabec

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Have used this helmet for a few seasons now and have even replaced it with another Trabec after crashing hard on it. Can say it held up to a huge crash earlier this season, I was super glad I was wearing it! It doesn't breathe as well as other brands do, but I'd prefer the head being covered than breathability, so you just need to choose what features are important to you. Also I love the color options. There, I said it.

      great fit!

Love this helmet. It provides great coverage, lightweight and breathable.
      Highly recommended

      Proven Trail Lid

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Trabec checks off all the boxes for a trail helmet. It's plenty light, adequately well ventilated, fits true to size, and looks good. My two gripes are that the retention system isn't quite as secure as the click wheel you'll find on some other helmets, and I prefer the added coverage at the base of the skull afforded by a TLD A1 or POC's new Tectal.

Anyone know if the visor is removable?

      Best Answer

      Hey Chris,

      Yes, the visor is removable!

      Junk

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Have a stable of high end bikes and about as many helmets. In an effort to save weight, this manufacturer has compromised quality and safety. One the first ride, one of the strap attachment pulled out of the helmet clips and when I as attempted to reattach, it would just pull out. The velco tabs that restrain the pads are already coming loose and all this and all this after one use. Let me preface this review with the fact that I maintain all my bikes and gear in immaculate condition and have more bike tools than most bike shops. Surprises me Backcountry would even carry this helmet.

Is there a better alternative that is better constructed or better velcro, which is easy to augment with .50 cent strips BTW

I had the same problem. Two weeks in to owning this helmet, the strap pulled out of the shell up front and I have ridden it with duct tape for over a year now. My wife just wrecked and shattered her helmet which reminded me that having a faulty helmet is a bad idea. This is an expensive piece of junk and I can not recommend anyone riding in it.

I looked on their POC's warranty page and they say I am supposed to contact the retailer, so I called backcountry and they just gave me an email address for POC (fail). I found a phone number for POC in Utah so I called POC about the issue and no one ever decided I was worth calling back.

john what would suggest as a better alternative for this type of helmet???

      Great Helmet

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Had the helmet for about a year now. Fits great. I have a larger head and the L/XL fits nice.

      Great Fit/ Additional Protection

I've ridden with this helmet for about a month. I like the additional protection from the longer sides and the fit is great.

Okey folks, I'm going to retire the Good'OL Giro Helios that I use for road and xc. Now, I'm Thinking about purchasing a TRABEC RACE. Should I pay the extra for the MIPS version? Is it worth the extra shillings in the end??

MIPS is where helmet technology is headed. I'd say yes, it is definitely worth it. POC was one of the first to come out with using MIPS technology, but now there are a handful of other co's utilizing it as well, including Giro. Find your price point / style of helmet, and you'll be set.

        First impressions are great

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have a 54.5 head and went with a M/L, this is the best fitting helmet I have ever owned (I usually fit best in Giro size M). Ventilation is really fantastic (my head actually got cold!). It is not a small helmet but it has that POC look, which I like. I will not that this helmet has comprehensive coverage around the side of the head (see photo) and will not fit all sunglasses (my Tifosis didn't work too well).

        First impressions are great

        Over the Visor

Protecting the brainy bits, and lookin' good doing it.
