At either end of the spectrum of base layer sleeves, long sleeves are nice — but only under long-sleeve jerseys — and sleeveless is versatile but some of us aren't fond of the occasional chaffing and irritation that the cuffs can cause just behind the underarm. The short-sleeve Pearl Izumi men's Transfer Base Layer addresses both concerns, eliminating chaffing while providing enough sleeve to back short-sleeve jerseys without peeking out. The material is designed to promote wicking and encourage cooling airflow, and a mesh back stretches for a second-skin fit. The Transfer is also designed with multi-sport use in mind, so it'll accommodate you across disciplines during brick workouts.
- Q & A
Truly versatile base layer!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Small
This new 2017 design is very different from previous designs/materials. It still fits true to size for a top that should be form-fitting (i.e. next-to-skin, second skin). The new material is still very thin, yet it manages to keep me feeling just right at both extremes of summer temperatures, from about 13C in the early mornings to +30C in the late afternoons. Awesome base layer. If you're wondering what substances are being used in the material, I asked Pearl Izumi and they said they use a natural (yay, not chemical!) compound made by 37.5: https://www.thirtysevenfive.com/about/
