Pearl IzumiP.R.O. Softshell Leg Warmers

Your legs are your engine. Pamper them.

It seems that every year we forget how uncomfortable riding in the wet, cold weather of late fall through early spring can be for our legs. Fortunately, the timely arrival of Pearl Izumi's P.R.O. Softshell Leg Warmers reminded us of that before we got out on the road to experience it firsthand.

These warmers are touted as being new, but that's more of a reflection of the advancements made over Pearl's 2013 warmers, which include increased warmth and wider silicone grips at the top that keep the warmers in place while feeling less restrictive. The P.R.O. Softshell panels on the front resist wind and water, and the Thermal Fleece fabric everywhere else ensures flexibility, warmth, and wicking. The panels and seams are arranged anatomically to eliminate uncomfortable bunching and make sure the warmers move with you throughout your full range of motion. The whole package is rounded out with some reflective highlights, which, along with the large, red grip bands, make these a stylish addition to your cold-weather wardrobe.

The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Softshell Leg Warmers are available in six sizes ranging from X-small to XX-Large in the color Black.

Not great for tall riders

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought these for my husband, he's 6'5" with a 35" inseam and tree trunk quads, these would have been awesome if he had shorter legs and smaller quads. The material is comfortable with a generous multi-directional stretch and the slip-resistant band at the top appeared to be comfortable. Unfortunately, they don't fit him well and they had to be returned.

The best but no longer a great deal

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

These are the best leg warmers on the market right now. The are wind resistant & warm. Fit is On. Improved upper leg band. Not the lightest & not water proof but good in that 55-40F range.

Great leg warmers

These are great leg warmers, they fit great and provide great protection from the cold. They are durable. They fit true to size to the rest of Pearls line.

    Great leg warmers!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

For years I have used the Pearl Izumi Elite Arm/Leg Warmers and still use them. I needed a bit more protection and got a pair of these. Amazing in the difference. The Soft Shell panels block the cold air as it hits the front of your arms or legs. Did I mention it is an amazing difference? They block the cold without building up moisture under the garment. I usually run a small on the leggings and, like the Elite, are a perfect fit but I also like my leggings tight. They tend to get baggy if you wear them loose; loose, baggy clothing when cycling drives me nuts! If you are used to the Elite, you might find these a little tight, especially in the area of the red securing band. But they are great for blocking the cold if you don't like long-leg bibs. These you can use with your regular bibs and still be warm. I like 'em!

    Very SHORT

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I am giving the product 4 stars, like the other 2 reviewers, so I don't rock the boat. However, I had to return the item, as it runs very short in my opinion. I am very tall, which doesn't help, but Pearl Izumi is typically one of the best brands for tall guys, so I'm disappointed with these. Also, these warmers are very warm. Too warm. If the air is so cold (say under 25 deg F) that I need this fabric, I think I'd rather have full thermal tights or bibs.

Initial impressions from a rain ride

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Size Bought: medium

I just received a pair of these leg warmers and got to try them out the other day. These are my initial impressions: The overall material is great and comfortable. It keeps the wind out really well and even held off road spray and detritus very well on a three hour ride in the rain without fenders. I did not really feel as if my legs were getting wet, despite the fact that they were. The fabric kept away that cold clammy feeling I usually get with thermal leg warmers when they get wet. These fit pretty long. I have a 32" inseam and the leg warmer goes from crotch to ankle with a rumple of fabric to spare. The knee area is a bit odd. There is more stretchy fabric to allow for articulation in the front of the knee as the shoftshell material is not as elastic. I found this area to be oddly baggy when my leg is extended which is more of an eye irritation than performance hinderance, though it is probably zapping away the precious watt or two I gain from my shoe covers. It makes me want to pull the leg warmer up to get it tight, but alas this is not possible. When sitting on the saddle and pedaling this area tightens up. The elastic band on the top has a good hold. the lower leg is a bit tight. If you have true tree trunks for calves, look elsewhere or atleast try them on. Overall I am satisfied with this product as I believe it will do its job well. Would I buy it again, until they fix the odd knee joint I do not think so as I am sure there are leg warmers out there with all the same benefits without the eye sore.

    Great product, good fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are overall great at doing what they are meant to do - to keep your legs warm and out of the wind. I love that they can be used anywhere from very cold mornings to temperate spring or fall rides thanks to the good ventilation panles on the backs of the tights while the windproof front panels are soft and warm. My only gripe is the fit - they stay up nicely on the thighs thanks to the silicon gripper which is super comfy, but for some reason the fit around nd under the knee is a bit baggy when the leg is extended. Though this is purely aesthetic and doesn't affect the actual performance of the product.
