We love arm warmers because they afford a level of flexibility that jackets and long-sleeve jerseys don't: you can shove them down and pull them up over the course of a ride as conditions and comfort dictate. (Plus, how can you not like that bunched-at-the-wrist look?) Given this flexibility, warmers are the first piece of kit we consider picking up as the summer days shorten, and Pearl Izumi's new P.R.O. Softshell Arm Warmers were at the front of our queue for 2014.
These warmers are touted as being new, but that's more of a reflection of the advancements made over Pearl's 2013 warmers, which include increased warmth and wider silicone grips at the top that keep the warmers in place while feeling less restrictive. The P.R.O. Softshell panels on the front resist wind and water, and the Thermal Fleece fabric everywhere else ensures flexibility, warmth, and wicking. Reflective highlights will help you determine which warmer belongs to which arm. The logos in the reflective bits, along with the large, red grip bands, make these a stylish addition to your cold-weather wardrobe.
The Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Softshell Arm Warmers are available in five sizes ranging from X-small to X-Large in the color Black.

These arm warmers are painfully stiff!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought: Large
Two comments to begin with: 1) I own several pairs of arm warmers offered by various brands; 2) I find Pearl Izumi products to have great value for the money and almost everything I purchased of their brand can be highly recommended . Although these are excellent arm warmers at blocking wind, I cannot bear to wear them anymore. Size is correct; it's the material that's the deal breaker. No amount of washing or breaking in has helped. Way too STIFF! Buy the thermal version instead.
stiff fabric is uncomfortable
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: xs
I have had thermal pearl izumi arm warmers which I loved. I crashed and tore them. The new windproof fabric is stiff, and the crease at the inside of the elbow does not feel good at all. There is almost no stretch to them. Size runs true, they feel short in length as well. Disappointed.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs small
Sorry did the description say that you can shove it down anything unlike a jersey? I used the size chart and I believe I was on the small size of what I got (x-small) and it was too small. It took me 7 minutes to fit each of them in to the arm and is not comfortable at all. Did I mention that it wasn't really elastic? That's right. The top of the arm warmer has an "elastic band" kind of like boxer underwear but much less elasticity. It doesn't really stretch more than a cm. And the rubber grip on the top of it is nice but makes it even harder to put on. I had to fold it over so I could pull on the arm sleeves. The other issue I had was the sleeve material itself was not very flexible in the sense that "one size fits all" (for the given size...) but it was really "one size fits one" and that's whatever the arm sleeve size is.
THE "armings" for cold weather

For years I have used the Pearl Izumi Elite Arm/Leg Warmers and still use them. I needed a bit more protection and got a pair of these. Amazing the difference. The Soft Shell panels block the cold air as it hits the front of your arms or legs. Did I mention it is an amazing difference? They block the cold without building up moisture under the garment. I usually run a small on the leggings and large on the armings. The leggings are a perfect fit. I thought the armings were a little tight and restrictive at first but don't think I would like the fit of a size up. If you are used to the Elite, you might find these a little tight, especially in the area of the red securing band. But they are great for blocking the cold if you don't want to be burdened by a jacket. I like 'em!

Product was way to big for size listed. Purchased an xs which to me looked like large.
