Protect Yourself!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My dermatologist recommended I start wearing more technical, sun blocking clothes and this was the first piece I bought. It's light so I can wear while hiking in the summer and cute that I can also wear to outdoor concerts and restaurants. I will be buying more Patagonia sun products!

Amazing Shirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This shirt is AWESOME. Keeps my skin protected during long days on the water in strong sun. It truly keeps me cooler in hot/sunny weather than wearing a tank top. I wear it fishing but it's also a great top for hiking in high alpine areas exposed to strong sun. The fit is great and I love the little zip pocket on the left side. Highly recommend!

My pale skin is finally protected!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

man oh man is this thing important. especially for a pale face like me. When you're done with the sun but still have to be "in" it, an article of clothing like the sunshade shirt is killer. Don't let the sun stop you from doing the activities you love, and cover up! it'll save your skin and get some of that heat off of you. I mainly use mine for fishing and hiking in exposed areas and it has made a huge difference. the thumb holes allow you to cover the tops of your hands as well which is pretty nice. most people forget to put sunscreen there so it acts as extra protection. I'll probably invest in another because.. well.. i burn easily. I am a true to size small and the Patagonia size small fit perfectly. fitted, but not too snug.

It' s great!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Good daywalker. Not very warm because it is not designed to be very warm. It is great for hikes in the sun, or when you want to wear a long sleeve but are very susceptible to overheating (like myself). The opening for the hood is on the small side, but I might also just have an extremely large head.

Wear it for every occasion

  • Size Bought: Medium

Im obsessed with this hoodie. I wear it running, hiking, climbing, skiing and around town. Super breathable and soft fabric. I will say, it seems a little heavy for desert wear but I haven't tried that just yet. I love the hood and how it wraps around your face to provide optimal face sun protection for bright snow covered mountain tops. Only qualm is that it fits a little boxy, as does every other patagonia article I have ever worn. I am a 35 chest, 27 waist and wear a medium. I wish it fit just a smidge tighter but the small was too small. Overall great product, I'll be wearing it for years to come!

Great Light Sunshirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I wasn't sure how I would feel about a sun hoody at first, but I fell in love. The fabric is super light- makes it bearable to wear in the super hot temperatures- and soft to the tough. I love the pocket accent too- easy to through something in there without being in the way. I am not personally a fan of the hood so much, though I do understand the purpose for the elastic, so it actually stays in place. Great shirt for hanging in the sun, swimming, hiking, basically all of the funtivities. Definitely would recommend!

No Sunscreen? No Problem.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I got this for my wife specifically for fly-fishing, but it has proven to be super versatile from hiking, to fly fishing, to the farmer's market last weekend. It is totally at home while running errands in town and/or running ridges in the mountains. I was originally nervous that the full sleeve/hood coverage would cause overheating, but the fabric is super lightweight and breathable. It feels like you're wearing nothing at all! The best part is: no slimy sunscreen hands!

GREAT SHIRT, IN ALPINE.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: small

I Bought this for desert work, and the material is just too thick to be comfortable for the desert. I think this would be fabulous for the mountains, skiing, touring etc. I returned mine, but had borrowed a friends before this.

No one likes sunburns

  • Fit: True to size

My lady says:

Great for hiking, scrambling, camping, biking and fishing. It can be a little warm on really hot days, but worth being warm instead of being sunburned. When not worn, takes up little space and weight in the pack. This will be one of her main go-to pieces year round for all activities.

Great shirt for Climbing!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Extra Small

I absolutely love this sun shirt! I wear it climbing all the time so I don't get burned when I am in the sun all day. The material is awesome, it is breathable and light weight. I usually wear XS in Patagonia shirts and got an XS in this shirt and it fits me perfectly!

Sun protection with a hood

I gave this to my Mother as a gift, she loves it. It provides great sun protection and as a bonus has a hood which is rare for a lightweight shirt. The material is cool and airy.

Keeps me cool and protected

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I got this hoody for a bone fishing trip to Mexico. It kept me cool and burn free after 8 hours on the flats. I bought a medium because I wanted a looser fit and more hand coverage.
Pros: fits great, comfortable, 25 jpg, pocket is big enough for a reel or buff, cool, dries quick
Cons: stains easily, material snags easily

Keeps me cool and protected

Poor material

Fabric tears really easily

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I received this shirt, washed it, and it came out of my machine with a hole in it. Luckily, Backcountry is giving me store credit and I am returning for free. For 70, this should be more durable.

Sunshade Hoody video review

Bart from Patagonia shares his thoughts on the Sunshade Hoody.

Perfect shirt

I purchased this shirt a year ago, and it became my favorite go- to piece for those almost chilly days. It is super comfortable and light, but is still stylish enough to wear anywhere. It goes from lounging to around the town to dinner out. I also use it for running, light hiking, and the occasional extra ski layer. I am a pretty warm person so this light layer is perfect, I stll wear it multiple times a week and am planning on purchasing another.
