Patagonia Simul Alpine Pant - Women's
PatagoniaSimul Alpine Pant - Women's

Softshell pants for snow, ice, and rock.

Designed to make light work of rough weather alpine ascents and long multipitch climbs, the Patagonia Simul Women's Alpine Pant delivers plenty of lightweight protection, breathability, and water resistance in a stretchy softshell. The double-woven knit is durable without being heavy, while the DWR coating sheds light precipitation and the OppoSet adjustable waist ensures a snug but but bunch-free fit. Patagonia also built the Simul with an articulated cut and gusseted crotch to help with your high stepping, French technique climbing, and glacier walking, and it included a narrow lower leg with a drawcord cuff to keep your pants out of the way and snow out of your boots.

  • Polyester stretch softshell with a DWR coating
  • Articulated cut and gusseted crotch
  • OppoSet adjustable waist
  • Zippered hand, back, and thigh pockets
  • Narrow lower leg with cuff cinch

Great Pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 4

The other reviews are accurate in saying that these pants are snug. However, they worked perfectly for me for what I was using them for. I wore these pants basically 72 hours straight when climbing Mt. Shasta in July. I had no problem wearing the Patagonia Capilene Lightweight bottom underneath. I liked the snug fit of the pants because it kept them from getting in the way while mountaineering. They were unbelievably breathable, fantastic at moisture wicking (we were in snow for 2/3 days), and overall worked really great for what I was using them for. Dirt came off easily, which I had not expected to appreciate, but when you have one pair of pants for 3 days that kind of detail starts to matter. I even wore them glissading (sledding on snow without a sled) for about 4k vertical feet, and although my butt got painfully cold, I was actually shocked that the pants took the insane friction without the smallest indication of the strain. Even better, they were completely dry within 20 minutes.

I am usually size 4, and although the pants were tighter than I was expecting, they ended up being the ideal fit for what I needed them for. If you are bulkier in the thighs, butt, or stomach, or if you just want a roomier fit, I would recommend going at least one size up.

Overall, I am beyond satisfied with these pants, and I'm excited to put them to more use in the future.

Very tight in thighs/ hips

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 4

I have a slim / straight shape. I have very narrow hips, and do not have much of a bootie. I Usually take size 26/27 , or a size 2 in women's pants, never larger than a size 4. I ordered these in a size 4 thinking i'd probably have a first layer on , and they were skin tight in the bum and too tight in the thighs. A warm under layer would be impossible. They are so tight im not even sure a size 6 would work if i want to layer . The construction and fabric seem great, but they are going back in favor of a larger size.

Not for small waists and strong legs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Size Bought: 6

I really wanted these to by my go to climbing pants but they simply are not cut for someone with muscular legs. I bought these in my usual size for Patagonia, 6. I found these pants to be uncomfortably tight through the thighs when I tried to move around. Yet, they were quite loose through the waist. They will be going back. Aside from the bad fit for my body type they seem to made of high quality, durable material and the stitching also seemed very well done.

Very comfy, but runs big! :-)

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Size 2

These pants are very comfortable to wear for most anything; however, they do run a little on the large side. I am 5'6" and weigh 110 - I had to go with the size 2, and they are still pretty loose-fitting. They will be perfect in the winter with long underwear though, so I don't mind too much. I like the fact that the bottoms will cinch up if needed, and that the pockets all zip. Because of the high waist, it keeps my climbing harness from rubbing. If these are worn high like they're intended (which mine won't because the waist is too loose on me), the inseam will only be about 32". I have longer legs and are kind of grateful that the pants fall a little below my actual waist, and therefore give me an extra inch or so for the length. lol
