Almost perfect!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These jeans get it right on so many levels: material, overall fit, manufacturing practices, and so on.... However, the pocket length and zipper placement seems so off that it makes me wonder how this got through to the final product.

I get "high-fashion" brands making unusable ultra-short pockets, because the last thing they want is their products/wearers looking bulky, but outdoorsy Patagonia? Come on!

And that zipper! I mean, that zipper *does* have the effect that you'll feel well-endowed after having to pull off some yoga/tai-chi moves just to get a hold of and then pull out your junk, but again, from Patagonia? Come on! :)

Overall, still a great pant that gets it right where it counts.

Great quality, good fit.

These are a solid pair of jeans. They fit well and have a pretty roomy fit through the thighs, which I like. You you can tell they're made from a high quality denim and all the stitching appears to be pretty solid.

length sizing

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I got the 32 waist in short and regular, as I couldn't tell the actual length. For my waist size the regular was length 32 and the short was length 30.

I noticed we are about the same in both waist and height. Did you end up getting the 30" inseam or 32" inseam?

Brian I got the 30" inseam. I almost always get 30" inseam

Straight up I love these jeans. The regular fit is perfect. It's not too tight and not too loose. I've been wearing my pair for four months now almost every day and haven't had any issues. I would recommend not washing these often if you want them to stay deep blue. The organic cotton and fair trade certification were selling points for me as I hate GMO cotton and am tired of sweatshop labor. This is my first pair of Patagonia jeans so I do not have experience with their previous styles or fits. I did try on a pair of the performance straight fit and hated those because they were ridiculously tight in my opinion.

what has happened to the sizing?

Patagonia used to make pants that were relatively slim fitting, but not too tight, they were the Goldilocks of pants. Now, for some reason, they've decided to make pants that are for people with very large thighs and small calves. I'm not sure what sort of person would fit in these, but they must be quite pear shaped. If you've purchased Patagonia pants in the past and enjoyed them, you will be surprised. Beware!

I think you'd be psyched w the Straight Fit version of these

I'm sure, that for those that can fit into these, they would be great. But when you mountain bike a lot and do weights its hard to find a jean that fits in the legs. Patagonia used to do a relaxed fit in this range and they were awesome. I loved them, bought three pairs, and was hoping to buy more. When they discontinued them I decided to give these a try. They didn't work :-(. Fortunately, and I would recommend them to anyone else who has the same problem, the relaxed fit Marmot Pipeline Jean do. They are way better and the stretch fit makes them a little more comfy to.
