The do-it-all layer

This jacket is incredibly versatile and convenient! It's packable, warm, and breathable, making it the perfect layer for outdoor activities. Wear it on its' own, throw a rain jacket on top, or stack on some layers, you really can use it in any season.

Awesome layer

This jacket is seriously the perfect layer. I use it a ton around town in the winter. It offers the perfect amount of insulation and warmth for my quick commute to and from work, without overheating. I also use this as more of a mid layer for ice fishing and it’s awesome. I can take off my outer layer and not freeze to death on the ice. The material was also a better than I expected it to be in the snow and slush, if I did happen to get wet it was easily brushed off or just slides right off not much really seemed to settle it seem through.

Awesome layer

I gave this as a gift and have some feedback from the receiver. She loved how light it was, the color, the pockets, the size, and the warmth. She just loved it.

The only downside she mentioned was that when she wore the hood, she literally looked like the Patsy from Monty Python. Not kidding. I know it is for under the helmet, so it makes sense, but it makes it rough for when you do not have a helmet.

I have a few of Patagonia's other puffy jackets (the down sweater jacket and the nano-puff) and this one is well worth the extra money! It is so lightweight and pack-able, and I would say it's warmer than my nano-puff. Serious quality and a lifetime warranty. Definitely a go to for every day wear as well as outdoor activities.

Incredible mid layer!

This jacket is SO lightweight and packable while also keeping you toasty warm! I run cold and was apprehensive that this jacket wouldn't keep me warm enough. I wore it on a yurt trip as a mid layer for hanging out and hiking and I stayed nice and warm. I never even wore my big down jacket. I tried the XS and would actually size down into the XXS because I would like the jacket closer to my body. This jacket does fit long in the torso which I liked!

What can be said about this gem that hasn't been said already?
Overall, I am a big fan, and gush about Patagonia's ability to make super light, but warm jackets. It's not perfect, but it's an excellent piece that I find myself grabbing again and again for a variety of reasons. It's a great layering piece for a shell jacket for skiing (if you don't mind the double hoods) and seems to be quite breathable and odor resistant, a great belaying jacket for frigid temps on its own, or even just wearing on top of your city outfit to stay warm around town. I love all the pockets (although sometimes this can get confusing, remembering which pocket you put your stuff!) - there are three zippered ones on the outside (two side, one chest), and two open ones on the inside - it holds so much I don't feel like I even need a purse sometimes although maybe that's just me.
Small gripes: yes it is packable, but kinda voluminous/hefty still. I packed it down really tightly but it was still a large cylinder and was awkward to put into my snowboard jacket although doable. Still a great feature!
I find the hood a bit awkward as well. I don't know if it's cause of my long hair that I don't tie up getting in the way or whatever, but the tightness of the hood pulling down isn't very comfortable and I found myself taking it off. Or perhaps cause I'm tall & my longer torso pulls down on the jacket (I got a Medium), but that seems to be the dealio for now - I don't really use the hood for this reason.
Otherwise, I love this jacket and find it super versatile and awesome. Long live Patagonia!

This jacket is amazing! It's unbelievably light and packs down incredibly small, so you won't even notice it in your pack. It's also ridiculously warm -- if you put it on inside, you'll immediately notice the difference. I love its low-profile fit, and the fact that it's true to size. Patagonia nailed it with the Micro Puff! It's a bit pricey, but it's worth the investment in my book (plus you get a lifetime warranty!).

This coat is amazing!! Love the style and color!! My girls are old enough to wear my size too. So we have been sharing. I ended up buying another one this year so we have a purple and gray!!! We love Patagonia coats!!

My new favorite

This jacket. Wow. So warm, stylish and comfortable. Worn it skiing, hiking, and has been great for afternoon naps. I don’t think I’ll ever take it off. True to size. I have a Medium in this and the Down Sweater. Only size up if you think you’ll want to wear more than two layers underneath. Because it’s perfect just the way it is.

    Great for cold weather adventure

I took this jacket out for the first time on a hike this winter with my dogs. It was awesome! It was probably 25 degrees or so when we started and warmed up to around 36 throughout the hike and this jacket kept me nice and toasty. It packed down super small (especially compared to my other synthetic jackets) when the uphill got hot. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good insulated jacket for backpacking or winter adventures. The fit is true to size. I wore a small and typically wear a small in Patagonia products.

    Love it!

I've been wanting a Patagonia jacket for years and I'm happy I started with this one. It definitely isn't as warm as my parka but for what it is, it's surprisingly warm. Several of my friends have the same jacket and love it as well, so we all can match. It's the perfect everyday jacket as long as it isn't blizzarding that day. The hood is really my only complaint, it has elastic on the edge and is kinda small so when it does snow it will cover your head, but you'll kinda look like a dweeb.

I initially loved this jacket, but am sad to report that the sleeve tore after just two weeks of casual city use :( nice jacket but beware of the tear and use this as a layering piece on those extra cold days instead.

Loved everything about this jacket as it fits perfectly, keeps you warm, and is light and packs down nicely. Been wearing this jacket all winter as a mid layer and it keeps me plenty warm without over heating. A perfect jacket that can be used anytime during the year.

    Warm and light

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket is incredibly warm for how lightweight it is. I recently wore it as a mid layer on some really chilly resort ski days and now I'm hooked. It kept me nice and warm without having to put on too many bulky layers. It has the look and feel of down but the benefit of synthetic. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 just because I find the fit to be a little off for me (more a general fit issue with Patagonia jackets than this jacket specifically). I need a medium for length in the torso and arms but then I have way too much room in the chest/shoulders. I also don't love the collar, particularly when it's fully zipped up. But despite my qualms with the fit, it's hands down the warmest jacket I've tried on for the weight and it's an awesome winter layering piece.

Patagonia does it again with the micro. I had to see what the fuss was about with this product and I give it a 10/10 for sure! Packs down super small yet keeps you still so warm.

I bought this jacket a year and a half ago, and I am still completely in love with it.

In the winter I wear it almost every day. It has a low profile, and keeps you crazy warm. I have full length wool coats that do not keep me as warm as this jacket, it is basically magical. I love the color (Elwha) because it is more distinct than black or navy, but isn't obnoxiously bright. I wear it around the city all the time, and have used it camping/hiking and it has really done an amazing job. I've always admired Patagonia as a company, and I waited and saved to buy this jacket. This was the first time I was able to purchase one of their items, and it is worth every penny.

I own another Patagonia puff in XS and I like the fit. It’s great for when I wear tanks for shirts under. I ordered this one in gray (so cute!!!) and in a small this time so I could layer with bulky items. I’m obsessed with the color and fit. Only complaint is the weird good. It is a way odd fit and doesn’t look good when it’s on.

The new Micro Puff - not perfect

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I really wanted to love the new Micro Puff. I am a gear addict. Truly, I am a Patagonia coat addict. This fits totally different than the more recent release sizing of the Nano Puff. I have older nano puffs from a few years ago, this fits like those larges. I ordered the XL in Black. It is not shiny, it is identical in color to my XL Nano puff. But, the back is tight when I pull my arms forward. I had hoped to backpack in this. There is no give in it. It is not the same sizing of the XL of the nano puff or even the down sweater that ordered in the 2017. It is more like a Large. The arms are long, but not too long, but they are tight up near my shoulders. I am a 12-14, bust is 38C/D, and I carry weight around my middle in my 50's. It is not tight around my torso. It is tight around the chest and the arms. However, the XL in the Nano, the down sweater, and the Downtown fit me perfectly. The zipper is a YKK great quality. The pockets are a bit high, yet the overall fit is awkward. I want to zip and go ahhh...like I do with the Nano. So back to the Nano for me. Maybe a manufacturing flaw, maybe a sizing issue. I know that the sizing will be changed if enough reviews come in.

      In the Hood

A hood that isn't too big or too small - surprisingly hard to find in these modern times.

        How to Measure:
Measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam will vary depending on style; when lengths are offered, "short" is 30, "regular" is 32 and "long" is 33. Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
