Expedition-ready synthetic belay parka built for frigid, wet alpine conditions

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

“When you’re standing still in brutal cold—belaying, transitioning, or waiting out weather—this is the jacket you want. It’s incredibly warm for the weight, works even when things are wet, and is sized perfectly to throw over all your layers without fuss.”

When conditions turn unforgiving and movement slows to a standstill, we reach for the DAS Parka. Designed for climbers, alpinists, and anyone who needs serious warmth without relying on down, this parka delivers uncompromising protection in cold, damp environments.

Patagonia builds the DAS with durable Pertex fabric to block wind and shed moisture, while PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco traps heat and continues to perform when wet. Strategic insulation mapping boosts warmth in critical areas, making long belays and exposed stances far more tolerable. A helmet-compatible hood, oversized fit, and glove-friendly features ensure the jacket works seamlessly as a true over-everything layer when conditions demand it.

VERSATILITY AND USE

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

A well built jacket. Large pockets for gloves and glasses and phone and GPS recon. Kept me warm at the glacier of Fitz Roy. Dependable quality. I am 5' 10'', 180 lbs. Size designed to wear on top of two insulating base layers. Would buy it again and again.

Wearable Heater

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Very high quality, extremely warm parka. Its literally a wearable heater. Its made of very lightweight materials, but the insulation is thick, so it only packs down to a medium size compared to down. The outer layer is thin... Don't expect the durability of Cordura®. But its durable enough for its purpose as an extreme weather belay parka. Its definitely a bit oversized. I'm assuming that's so you can throw it over whatever you already have on (while dangling from the side of a mountain), but it still works if you have minimal layers underneath. (The model in that picture is surely wearing a size S.) If you want an extreme weather coat and like the design aesthetic of lightweight climbing gear, buy the DAS Parka! My only big complaint about this jacket is that the collar doesn't come up high enough when zipped all the way up (w/ hood up or down). This causes your neck and chin to be exposed to the elements. Most of Patagonia's similar insulated jackets have a collar that's 2-3 inches higher, and you can tuck your chin into when the wind is blowing, etc.

Warm in frigid temperatures

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was waiting for cold weather to try it out and it performed very well -9 F. I wore a base layer top, hoodie and my DAS Parka and I was warm in -9 F.

Seemed warm, compacted well, ran large

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Managed to find a medium in stock. Got it, threw it on ready to have found the one here. It must have added 20-30 pounds to my frame. I run a medium for everything in Patagonia and this was just huge on me. Probably not the intended buyer. Seems like a quality item over all. Just runs big in my view. Order different sizes and return those that don't work would be my suggestion.
