Pack up the Patagonia Cragsmith 32L Backpack with everything you need to top out and blaze up technical approaches with ease. The large, zippered top makes loading up at the parking lot painless, while the huge zippered back panel allows you to access rope, cams, and quickdraws without having to expose them to dirt and grime. Two side pockets are ideal for stashing some water, a topo map, and a guide book. A compression strap along the top of the pack helps to manage heavy loads and doubles as a rope fixing strap. The pack is composed of a super durable 630-denier nylon and is treated with a DWR finish to protect rope and gear from spitting rains.

    not just for climbing

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this as a minimalist travel bag! The full open back makes it easy to pack. 32L fits in the overhead just fine and I use the hydration pocket for my laptop. I have both the 32 and 40L... the 32 is near perfect... 40 is just a little big for common use but a great gear bag. I wish the 32 had the same top pocket the 40L has.

    My Sister's Favorite Bag!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got this for my sister who is just starting to climb in southern Ohio! It is the prefect little bag to hold all of her rope, chalk and gear! She loves the fabric and how comfortable it is on her back! Hopefully she will send me over some pictures soon so I can post about the bag in action!

    Unanswered Question

I was just curious as to whether the waist belt is padded like the previous model cragsmith or if it is removable, from what it looks like in the picture.

    How to Measure:
    Torso:
-Have a friend locate the bony bump at the base of your neck, where the slope of your shoulder meets your neck. This is your 7th cervical vertebra (C7). Tilt your head forward to locate it more easily. This is the top of your torso length.
-Place your hands on top of your hips bones, with fingers point forward, thumbs in back. This it eh "shelf" on which your pack will rest. The middle of an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs is the bottom of your torso length.
-Using the tape measure, your friend should measure the distance between the C7 and the imaginary line between your thumbs. Be sure you stand up straight when being measured. You know should have your torso length.
    Waist:
Measure around your waist just above your hips.
