Lightweight performance.

While some may contest that granola with chocolate is a hiker's best friend, the Patagonia Men's Capilene Lightweight Zip-Neck Top is arguably the most trustworthy and dependable, trail-side pal. This lightweight baselayer boasts a subtle grid pattern that floats atop the skin, which in turn wicks away moisture, dries quickly, and makes layering easy. In addition to its performance qualities, the fabric features a UPF 35 rating and Polygiene treatment that helps keep gnarly odors at bay. The generous, center zipper allows for quick and on-the-go temperature regulation, while the underarm gussets provide unobstructed mobility. Two thumbholes, one on each sleeve, keep the layer secure, and flatlock seams discourage any chafing—so you can carry on with your adventures in comfort and stride.

  • Patagonia's lightest baselayer for touring, climbing, or running
  • Moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabric
  • Quarter-zip allows for easy body temperature regulation
  • Polygiene treatment discourages build up of trail-induced stink
  • Low-profile elastic thumbholes keeps layer secure
  • Fair Trade sewing

Super Versatile

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I originally just bought this to ski tour in as spring approached and days are warming, but I've been so stoked on how it has performed this will be a go to layer for running and other active pursuits.

The fabric is surprisingly warm for its weight and breathable, it's also soooo much more comfortable then the last Cap2 layer I had from 10 years ago. The wrists aren't too tight which is great for when you want to pull the sleeves up and it becomes a 3/4 length sleeve t-shirt.

Great base layer for skiing fresh pow. Keeps you warm and fresh.

Nice and thin and light, haven't noticed a smell in it yet after a day of sweating, would buy it again.

I have several of these shirts in the 1/4 zip and crew neck. This has become my favorite shirt hands down. I keep an extra one in my truck along with other emergency gear (rain jacket, spare socks, etc.) The material is very comfortable against the skin, very resilient and stretchy, holds its form well, and doesn't seem to snag very much. I'm a sucker for the attention to detailing like the accented color zippers, and the subtle pin-striping. Patagonia got it right with this one. I wish more companies would put the effort into the little details that make this gear so attractive. There have been several times I've thrown this shirt on over a polo and chinos and it really pops. Well done gang. And thanks, Backcountry (as always) for offering the full line of color options.

Can't be beat

When I decided I was going to ride across the country on my bicycle I began with a long in depth search for the perfect top. I know this is touted as a baselayer, but it checked all the boxes I was looking for. Lightweight, breathable, durable, and odor control. The half zip and the thumb loops are nice bonuses. I have now ridden my bike, self supported, across the United States twice. Both times this was my shirt. I have worn it through the deserts in Utah and Nevada where the temperatures reach 106 degrees. I have also worn it through the rocky mountains in Colorado while I hiked my bike up the side of those mountains through snow. This shirt takes it all. Yeah, it gets smelly after I haven't showered for a few weeks, but I'm not going to fault the shirt for that. The odor control is really fantastic, but it can only do so much. During those trips I would often stop at streams and rinse the shirt as best I could. The material dries incredibly fast. It's wicking properties are unlike any other I've experienced with a baselayer. Anyways, I'm Patagonia for life now. Next June I will head out on one last bike packing trip across the United States, and this will again be my shirt. My warm layer is actually their thermal baselayer worn over this lightweight baselayer. If I throw on a rain jacket over the tops of those two layers I can ride though some pretty cold weather. Much love to Patagonia, their gear, their business philosophy, and their customer service. The pictures is of me at Battle Rock, Port Orford Oregon. It was the inaugural year of The American Trail Race, a 5,100 mile mountain bike route across the US. I was on my bike for 36 days. I also wore Patagonia board shorts for the whole trip too.

Solid backcountry layering piece

Bought this layer for my boyfriend for the upcoming season. Here's his take: Always been a big fan of the Capilene. Doesn’t stink and feels good next to skin. The zip enables a bit more thermal regulation over a crew neck. I am 6’2” and 165lbs and a Large fits me well. Not too baggy but plenty long so that it won’t come untucked. Think this will be a great layer for backcountry skiing.

I have one of these in every color

These shirts are the standard for a good base layer. Nice zipper, great cut, and the material cant be beat. I still have some of my Capilene from 7 years ago, and its still preforming great! Highly recommend these bomber baselayers.

Love it!

This particular layer was a gift for my brother, he wears it all the time and I know it's not his only Patagonia capilene layer. I also have a few and love them!
