Whatcha got under there?

UNDERWEAR! HA! I MADE YOU SAY UNDERWEAR!

Anyway, these things are supremely comfy. Soft fabric, nice stretch, no squeezing, fairly breathable.

I've got wide skier quads and a medium waist, and found that the leg openings would bunch/roll up a bit, which is one of my pet peeves. These aren't great to wear under form-fitting pants/tights, but if you're lounging around the house, swimming in an alpine lake, or wearing looser hiking pants, they're nice'n'wedgie-proof.

Wife loves these

My wife loves these, plan on getting more!

I love this underwear, and it's all I want to wear. They are great for hiking and backpacking and under my base layer for snowboarding. They stay in place without riding up and they fit true to size.

    works well enough

I got these for running and hiking. They fit well but tend to roll up a little around my thighs after I am on the move. They aren't as soft as I expected and the seams are double stitched which causes more chaffing. Not awful, not the best.

    Comfy

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My wife picked these out and says they are a big thumbs up. They fit true to size, don't bunch, and feel like another layer of skin!

    Comfortable underwear!

I used them casual under my dress and to exercise, I really like them because they are comfortable and they do not move even during intensive activity in the gym; they are also perfect for traveling because they dry fast.
Some of the cons are that they do roll up a little and the material thicker than I imagined, but I am ok with both.

    #1 Underwear

I love these! They fit true to size and comfortably wedgie free.

You are the same stats as me! Did you find these to be "cheeky" at all? Did they ride around?

    Wide waist band, thicker material

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

I like these shorts/undies a lot. I will use for sleeping as I tend to get super super hot like a furnace and I like to not "feel" products on me. I ended up going with a large, they are not super snug, but not loose. I could go with a smaller size, but I tend to not like to wear very form fitting stuff. I feel constricted. Material is stretchy, thicker than some of past season versions. The inseam would be nice if it were longer, but it's just fine. Gives me good coverage. I have not worn with pants/shorts, etc...so i don't know about riding up/rolling up factor or anything like that. I returned the XL and the Mediums seemed too tight for my liking.

I've never met a pair of Patagonia undies that I didn't LOVE......until I met the boy shorts. I LOVE boy shorts usually, but I've found that these tend to creep up....up....UP on me when I'm doing anything more than sitting still.

Let's go over the good, because like all patagonia underwear they are:
    -light weight
    -breathable
-thick enough (and they cover enough) to use as swim bottoms in a pinch

The fit just wasn't for me. I wear a small in all of my other Patagonia underwear and these just didn't ever feel right. If you'r not a fan of the boy short, for SURE check out the Patagonia active hipsters or briefs....you can live in them and they never stop being comfortable--no riding up at all.

    Not quite perfect

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M

First off I want to say that I love these boy shorts, however they are just a bit too large for me. I am in a weird size range where small is usually too small and medium is usually too large.. In this case, the medium is a bit too large and yet I feel like a small would be too tight. The legs roll up a lot on these for me as well, but other than that they are great!

These don't quite cut it for me!

Size reference: 5' 4.75", ~34A, 108-112 lbs. depending on the season. I carry my weight in my thighs/hips/bum, and I got these in a small despite being a little in-between an XS and a S according to their size chart.

FIT & PERFORMANCE: I am a big fan of the boy short style, and Patagonia definitely hit the nail on the head in terms of coverage. The length is just right, and they cover my bottom entirely, which is nice because a lot of "boy short" styles tend to be more "cheeky”; yet, they are not low-profile, as the edges of these shorts DO show through yoga pants or tight jeans. I have the matching bra which I do wear 1-2 times a week on average, and really like the matching, interesting patterns. The same fabric is used in both of them, which is excellent in terms of its ability to dry quickly, and my bra has lasted through many washes and a lot of activity, so I imagine the same would go for the fabric on the shorts.

However, for me, the crotch rides up after a short time wearing these while doing exercise or other more intense activities like climbing or slacklining, which makes them very uncomfortable. Walking to the store and back, they tend to feel good and stay put, but otherwise, I don't get much mileage out of them.

I think part of the problem is both the varying fabric pattern and the location/type of the seams. The fabric pattern on the majority of the boy short is very stretchy and soft, but the fabric pattern (or gauge, perhaps) on the crotch is tougher and much less stretchy , which makes it feel tighter than the rest of the short. For me, it feels quite restricting. The stretchiness of the rest of the short feels great when moving around a lot, but it seems like this aids in the shorts riding up elsewhere.

For me, the diamond crotch seam pattern on their Velocity Race Shorts doesn’t ride up and has a more natural feel, and you often see that type of seam in yoga pants, probably because the seem type/placement makes much more sense for us ladies (the seams tend to better follow our anatomy rather than run against it).

If you think these might work better for you than they did for me, I'd suggest buying this previous model that is on sale (or using a coupon to buy the new model) before committing to an expensive pair of underwear you might not like. It looks like the new model doesn't differ in the crotch style but rather in the thickness of the waistband (which wasn't a problem for me as it wasn't constricting).

The attached pic should show the comparison of the seam style in Patagonia's Velocity Race Shorts (in catalan coral) versus the Active Mesh Boy Short (in radiant magenta).

These don't quite cut it for me!

    The.Best.

I'd read a lot of reviews of these but always hesitated to pull the trigger (seemed like too much money?!?!). But finally I was convinced to try one pair and just "see" what happened.

Best. Life. Choice. (or close to it).

These are wicked light, incredibly comfortable, and don't ever seem to get the stink (even with intense use!).

If you're looking for something comfy, good for hiking, good for every day wear, good for anything, search no more. These are just plain awesome. And pretty darn cute to boot (boy shorts aren't always "adorable" but these have great colors and cute designs on them so it definitely is better than some other mesh type boyshorts out there!).

Didn't know you could love underwear so much until I tried both these and the stoic merino boy shorts.

(definitely not uploading a photo though!)

    Love the Style and Durability

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had a pair of these for the past few years, and have just invested in another pair. These are probably my favorite pair of underwear because it is lightweight, dries quickly, has a longer inseam then most boyshorts, and is antimicrobial. I have worn these on long-distance backpacking trips and been very happy. They can be worn for days without discomfort or starting to reek like cotton, also they are very easy to wash in a sink because they dry so quickly!

    Nice.

Nice fit. These are a little bit too thick but very comfortable.

    Hooked on these

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these shorts. They are perfect for hot yoga class, as well as worn under clothes and for travel. They are really comfy and quick drying, and wash well. I have ended up getting a few pairs, I'm hooked.

    Patagucci

    • Fit: True to size

If you are on the fence about spending ~$25 on some undies, get off that fence right now and into a pair of these. These Active Boy Shorts are the softest most awesomest most breathable undies ever. I was looking to find a replacement for the Victoria's Secret PINK yoga panties that they've recently discontinued and these are even better than what I was trying to replace!

They also double as great last minute lake swimming attire.

    Wife digs these

We bought an older version that was 100% polyester and she loves those, we needed another pair and she really likes the mesh material of these boy shorts. She's hooked. The fit is true to size and very low profile.
