Named after the Mountaneer Vitaly Abalakov, Outdoor Research's Vitaly Glove is geared for any style of ice climbing whether single pitch or alpine. Waterproof, windproof, breathable Gore-Tex Xtrafit fends off biting winds and frigid ice melt as you swing your ice tools hoping they bite into the ice securely. Top-of-the-line Primaloft Gold insulation works to trap heat and keep your digits warm, while still providing a lightweight and slim feel for optimal performance. Meanwhile, a pre-curved construction streamlines performance with efficiency so your hands work with the glove to hold onto your ice tools as you work your way up the ice climb.

Excellent Skiing Glove
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
When I first received these, I was a little put off about the lack of a wrist cinch or strap, but after using these for two seasons, I have had no issues with snow getting in or the gloves moving around on my hands. If anything, having the glove loose around my wrist seemed to keep everything warmer. I think the size M was a touch small for my hands, so I've never worn liners with them. Even on the coldest ski days, the gloves themselves were enough to keep my fingers warm. On the other hand, I never had an issue with these gloves being TOO warm on warmer days. They seem to vent well. Dexterity is good, the palms have proven to be grippy and durable, and the waterproofing and huge cuff are very nice features. I can't say anything about how these gloves work for their intended purpose of ice climbing, but as a skiing glove I have loved them.

Good Ice Glove For Very Cold Weather
Overall these gloves are a great addition to my ice climbing quiver. Depending on the conditions, the gloves I I use are the Alibi, Project, Extravert, Luminary, and now these. I see the Vitalys replacing the Luminary gloves, which are warm but don't have as much dexterity. I've climbed in these at ~5 degrees with 15-20 mph winds and was plenty warm in these even while climbing. The only thing about these is that they have a bit of insulation on the palm and front of the fingers, which is great for warmth but reduces dexterity and feel a little bit (which is compounded somewhat by fingertips that feel a tad loose - but that could just be me). For very cold conditions, that's a compromise that often needs to be made and that's where the Vitalys shine (compared to the Luminary, they have comparable warmth and better dexterity), but for milder temperatures I'd recommend something a little thinner.

Withstands harsh maritime environment on Bering Sea, Alaska
Just returned from a 6 day hunt for waterfowl on the Bering Sea off of St. Paul Island, Alaska (same place as Deadliest Catch boats dock). Conditions were brutal. Temps were in mid to high 20s and gloves were constantly soaked everyday due to crashing waves, salt spray, and 40-50 mph winds. Gloves kept my hands warm and most importantly dry no matter the abuse they took. The dexterity was great. They allowed me to be able to handle shells to reload as well as keep a positive grip on my gun no matter how wet they got. They are super warm without the bulk, this allowing me to be able to do everything, including pulling the trigger without having to remove them which you can't do with a lot of gloves. Definitely glad I purchased them and will recommend them to anyone in the future taking this once in a lifetime trip to a very remote and austere environment.

A Winter Dream!
These gloves are truly fantastic. I've always suffered from poor circulation in my hands, and these gloves are a delightful surprise. I used them on a winter hike of Mt. Marcy in the Adirondacks late December; the temperatures were sub-zero and with the combination of physical exertion, the gloves performed great. They are waterproof, windproof, and have great dexterity too. I really enjoy the ability to easily cinch the cuff of the glove with one hand too. For most users these gloves should be perfect.

So Warm
Warmest gloves I've ever worn. I feel indestructible in them. Easy to adjust. They do fit very big, I have a small and I still feel like my fingers are a little loose in them
