Never retreat to the lodge.

Powder days are a double-edged sword if you're ill-equipped. On one hand, free refills; on the other, freeze to the point of retreating to the lodge for hot chocolate, where there are no free refills. Forgo the cocoa and ride in the Outdoor Research Women's Stormbound Jacket. Its Pertex Shield+ provides rugged waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection against snowy days, and the light, lofty Primaloft Silver Down Blend insulation keeps you warm and cozy in cold temperatures. Outdoor Research even added an internal balaclava because you plan on getting a little snow in your face on a powder day.

  • Rugged ski shell built to last on epic powder days
  • Pertex Shield+ ensures waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection
  • Primaloft Silver Down Blend is light, lofty, and durable
  • Ventilation zippers under each arm for amplified airflow
  • Removable powder skirt and internal balaclava for complete coverage
  • Recco reflector may help Recco-equipped patrols find you in emergencies

Crazy long arms!

  • Size Bought: Small

I took a chance on this because of the sale price. Lots of great features and seems like it would be warm, but the arms are so ridiculously long, I have no idea who has these body proportions (short torso, small waist, insanely long arms). You can cinch the bottom of the sleeve to keep it up but then the arms bunch and look puffy and silly. I never write reviews but I had to pass along feedback on this one. Sorry @OutdoorResearch, this will be my last purchase.

Hey Kerri - I am sorry you had that experience. This is not typical of OR jackets, and this one, being more of a frestyle ski piece, was oversized, in my opinion. Please don't let one experience taint your view of this brand, because OR is doing some really great stuff! I wish you well and Happy New Year!

Great mobility of arms in this jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I bought this jacket to do barn chores and ride horses in and it is fabulous! For the first time ever in any coat (even horseback riding specific jackets) I was able to raise my arms and move freely without the core of the jacket moving! Love this jacket and would definitely recommend it!

Inconsistently Sized

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

This jacket was very comfortable and clearly has high-quality material. Unfortunately, the elastic at the bottom to keep snow out was way too tight, and the circumference around the bottom of the coat itself was also tighter than it should have been. Sizing up would not have worked, because the rest of the coat fit really well.

Guess it is not good for women with hips...everyone else should be fine. Bummed I can't keep it.

strange sizing

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

5'7" and 120 lbs got a medium and way too snug and sleeves way too long. Very unusual cut to this jacket.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

Sleeves were too long!

Is this jacket one insulated piece or does it have a removable insulated layer?

Hi Hilary,

This will be all one piece, it has no removable liners or layers.

Hope this helps,

Henry S.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Bust:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
