Skyward II Jacket

There are softshells and hardshells, and then there's the Outdoor Research Women's Skyward Jacket; a soft hardshell suitable for skinning up steep, backcountry terrain and skiing down said steeps in deep snow. Outdoor Research's lightweight and thin three-layer AscentShell construction assures reliable waterproofing for snowy conditions, and it provides outstanding breathability that's air permeable to keep you comfortably cool when you work up a sweat.

A jacket this breathable might lead you to believe that it actually isn't that waterproof, but Outdoor Research taped the jacket's seams to prevent a single snowflake from seeping through. Just in case the fabric's air permeable nature isn't enough for you, the Skyward's long, hem-to-underarm, TorsoFlo ventilation system assures ample airflow. The hood adjusts over beanies on the skinner, and it slides over helmets with ease. In case your skins freeze, the internal Shove-It pockets warm them up on the ride down for the next hike up.

Gorgeous Jacket

I love the look of this jacket, but sadly had to return it because my hips are too wide. I'm 5'3" and 118lbs and ordered an xs for reference.

I REALLY wanted to like this jacket!

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

This shell felt super sturdy and great as an outer layer for skiing - but the proportions make no sense! Super tight around the torso with no room for a puff underneath, and the arms were baggy and way too long. Bummer, because other than the fit it seemed great. Had to return it.

Great quality

Great quality and fit, I have a short torso so it's a bit long but rolled over it is perfect and still does the job!

Best shell I have owned

I've used hiking, biking, and as a rain shell... still waiting to use it in the snow, but so far it is amazing. Highly recommend.

All the bells and whistles

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This shell has been great for my ski season thus far. OR really thought of everything. Inside pockets for straps and a chest pocket for your phone. Zippers for everything to keep items secure and allow for versatility. I fluctuate between a small and a medium but purchased a medium to fit this over my other jacket and layers. Highly recommend!

Nice shell

Overall great jacket, I like that features. I'm 5'9 and about 160lbs, it fits well in the body but the sleeves are super long. I will have to get them shortened as they are past my fingers.

Used for splitboarding and hiking. Breathable and comfortable jacket with big zippers for great ventilation.

Yes I would buy again.

I will wear this as an outer layer on very cold days in Montana. Haven't actually used it yet as we are unseasonably warm this year.

I love the features of this jacket, but the arms and torso were too long for me.

Great ski shell

All around great ski shell, I love the hip to pit zips and the number of pockets. Not as stiff as some shells I have owned but just as effective at wind protection and easier to layer underneath. A lot of the reviews I read before purchasing the jacket said the fit wasn't quite right, but I have not found it to be a problem. Although the shell does have a cinch around the waist to prevent snow entry, I do wish it had a powder skirt.
