middle range rain/tech shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

usage: rain and/or wind shell pants
- works well as a trail running/hiking/backpacking pant if - S*** gets real
- more wind/rain resistant than a softshell

pros:
- full length side zip
- ease button snap closures
- lightweight (more protection than the helium)
- packable (folds into its own pocket)

cons:
- not gtx or 3L
- no crampon/scuff guard
- not as UL as the helium, but see pros

I generally have a 29-30" inseam, the latter being for boots, so the sizing works well for me. Took this to Kilimanjaro and have had this throughout some trips to the Whites in NH. Seems like enough space underneath that you could wear mid/thin heavyweight baselayers and this on top. Fits fine with normal baselayer+softshell like the iceline underneath. No fancy fabric cuts or gusseted/articulated knees. Simple and slightly better imo than the Precip. Probably wouldn't take these chimney-ing since they'd probably shred like everything else.

Hey Matt - thank you for the review. These are designed to be an entry level option for a waterproof shell, so it specifically leaves off the bells and whistles you reference above. We have more expensive and more features shells, with scuff guards, durable outer fabrics etc.

My favorite part about these is the full separating side zips at this price. Killer!

Not that flattering

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

For a tall girl these pants are not that flattering. I returned them.

Hey there Read, I'm sorry the pants didnt work out for you. These are designed to be a very simple, yet functional product for rainwear protection. We didnt get all fancy in design or highly technical fabrics so that we can offer this pant to you at $75. If you would like a more tailored (but more expensive) pant, hit me up and I would be happy to make a recommendation for you. OR has awesome pants! This one is really designed to just get the job done (keep you dry) at a price that doesn't soak you.

Thanks,

How do these pants compare with the Marmot PreCip pant? Same type of material? Would like to see a March Maddness lightweight rainpant competition: Comparing and contrasting similar price point products, etc.
