Nice mitts, but runs small

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Nice quality mitts with the features I wanted (gauntlet style, leather palms, removable liners, leashes). OR's guarantee is second to none. A few years ago I had a previous pair of OR mitts that a seam started to rip and they sent me a replacement pair immediately. Great customer service. However, the replacement pair was too small despite being the same size (Large). I still used them but without a warm liner. This time I ordered size XL Highcamp mitts for my son who has same size hands as me. Fits great on size L hands. If you buy OR mitts, ORDER A SIZE LARGER THAN YOU NORMALLY WEAR.
A quick comparison to my Marmot Expedition mitts. The advantage of the OR Highcamp is the removable liner. The advantage of the Marmot Expedition is more insulation (warmer mittens) and the nose wipe patch on the back of the thumb. For people like me with perpetually cold hands (Raynaud's syndrome), the Marmot Expedition is better, but for most "normal" people the OR is a great mitt.
Bottom line: Great mitts, just order a size bigger than you normally wear.

nice but...

I can't really address the warmth of these, although they sure seemed like they would be great. The problem was the size! I ordered XL for my husband (6 foot 2, but only 160 pounds) and they were much too small.

Thank you! I have heard that and have passed on the information to OR. Thank you for writing!

Versatile and functional

Awesome mitts! I use them for long, cold days splitboarding; they seem to work well down towards -5* F (as long as I'm moving around some). The combination of shells + liners = great versatility. If I wear just the shell the mitts are good for those 50*F wet spring days. The liners are great for the skin track, then pop the shells on when you gotta get your hands snowy.

A huge plus to these mitts is OR's Infinity Guarantee. Basically they will replace the gloves if you're not satisfied, no questions asked. This makes all the difference for me because I know I have a half-dozen pairs of mitts with holes in the tips.

Trace - thanks for the great review! These are such a versatile piece of gear, your review nails it!
