Why We Like The Hemispheres Bib Pant

We always have the Outdoor Research Hemispheres Bib pant in our kit when the forecast is calling for two feet of fresh snow. Articulated knees allow us to take big, unrestricted strides up the skin track, while the large outer thigh vents keep us cool as we work hard to get the goods.

No I would not purchase again

Tighter in legs and smaller than the previous OR ski pants that I own. I've worn OR for almost 15 yrs and this pant is not the same cut as previous models

Great bibs!

Incredibly light, SUPER comfortable. Unreal how comfortable these things are. Really enjoying how versatile they are as well. ONLY complaint is I don't think the knees are articulated, so for skiing I find that they can become a little uncomfortable in the crotch area. Really no big deal at all, but something to be aware of. Only notice it when going down, and haven't noticed it touring, hiking, etc. Great bibs.

Great Bibs but there are better

Overall I'm really happy with them. I wish the top was slightly higher and more snug. If you're in the market for bibs I think the Skytour Ascentshell are the hands down best. Great value and a near custom fit. These are fantastic but also more than double the price.

These are the best ski/snowboard pants on earth.

I loved them to death, but it took 4 years of hard use to do them in and I did not hesitate to buy the same bibs. They have amazing stretch/range of motion and fit true to size, pleasantly loose, but not baggy. They are lightweight and very waterproof (SE Alaska is a damp place to ski). I'm 5'8 195 and a large is the ticket.

Solid option for backcountry skiing

Super breathable which is what I was hoping for a dedicated touring pant. Although the fabric is durable enough to hold up to abuse, I would not recommend these for mid-winter resort days because you will likely be very cold unless you size up so you can fit some puffy pants under them. As for sizing, I'm 6'1 155 pounds and picked the small. The medium was to wide in the waist and I don't mind the slightly shorter length since it makes for less interference with crampons. The slits for your boot power strap are great at make transitions easier and the cuff is large enough to fit over my Atomic Hawx ski boots. The only downside of these pants is the thigh pocket zippers are higher than I would like which makes them less accessible when wearing a jacket.

Light ski pants

These fit and feel great. They are light and well vented for skinning. I don't love the pocket configuration though. The chest pocket feels awkward to put anything but a small sunscreen or something in and there are no other pockets except for the hip pockets, so quick stashing of straps or gloves can be a pain if not wearing a jacket on top.

Great so far!

Great product, the fit is true to size IMO. I'm 5'9", 180, with an athletic build and a medium fits me great. I wear 33x30 jeans if that helps. The pants feel reasonably durable, are very comfortable and flex well. Opening at bottom is tight around my ski boots but they make it around em. I wish the kangaroo pocket was a bit deeper but other than that I love em. Zippers feel sturdy and they work like gortex is supposed to.

Not for Snowboard boots

Good features on this bib - notably the stretch panels allow for a snug fitting garment that you can still move in unrestricted. The boot opening was about 20" circumference which is probably good for ski boots but if you are on a splitboard or snowboard, the "ski or ride" mention in the description is pretty much ski only (obviously those on splitboards and ski boots are exceptions). Tried the other bibs at the OR and this seemed to be true for almost all of them - exception being the Baker bib. Baker bib is bulky and baggy with big ol' cargo pockets. Reminds me of mid-90s snowboard fashion and street wear. Not the same as the technical garment I am looking for.

These bibs are great.

I had these bibs most of last year and they preformed awesome, even in the PNW rain. I did have an issue with the seam in a front pocket coming unglued but OR took care of the issue and I'm super happy with how they handled it. Just wish they'd make the beacon pocket on the chest instead of the front right pocket, but I'm sure they have good reasons for that.

Awesome in All Conditions

This product is awesome and is good for all conditions. I use it exclusively for ski touring and ski mountaineering and it has performed excellently in a variety of conditions. It is my go-to bib whether I am harvesting corn snow in the sunny Sierra backcountry or chasing pillow lines in the deep powder of Rogers Pass BC. After ~200 days of use, the only sign of wear is some basic wear around the boot cuff from my Dalbello Lupo Ax (very wide boot) and a single tooth of the zipper has fallen out, but still functions normally. The only other thing is that this layer is not insulated so on multi-day trips I carry a small blanket to sit on.
