Really digging the Foray, especially the venting options due to the hem to bicep zippers. Started using this as a ski-tour shell, but was impressed with the durability of the face fabric so am now using it as a resort jacket as well. Equally packable and durable.

Will soak water and then weighs in

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Small

Sizing is a bit larger but NOT an issue at all.

I loved this jacket for few days (10-15 days), but DWR wears off very easily.
I went through the process of clean, tumble dry and check no help. Then I applied DWR and than it would stay only for 1-2 uses.

Thanks to the returns policies (seller / OR), was able to return even after few months.

Sticky zippers. Jacket seem to get wet in heavy rain, but still kept me dry. Lightweight and packable into its own pocket. Nice.

Unanswered Question

I'm 135 lb and around 5'7. would the Small be good fit or would it be too big? I would like to wear it also with a t-shirt underneath and I'm afraid it will be to baggy

Will the hood fit over a climbing helmet?

Dave - It will, but just barely. Not designed for that, but rather for general use hiking, backpacking. For a sure fit over any hood, try the OR Furio. Burlier, and definitely a helmet compatible hood. More expensive, and really worth it for that use!

Let me knwo if you have any more questions,

what size should I get L or XL? I am 6' 220 pounds, would like to layer underneath if possible. It seems like these are pretty baggy so I'm leaning on getting a Large

My co worker is 6'0" and 200, and he takes a large. It depends on how your weight is distributed, I think!

Backcountry's exchange policy is great, so no worries!

Outdoor Research Foray and Aspire Jacket

Men's Foray Jacket and Women's Aspire Jacket

The lightweight, waterproof, breathable Outdoor Research men's Foray Jacket and women's Aspire Jacket are GORE-TEX shells with all-season features, and provide solid protection when heavy rain sets in for the long haul. Waterproof and extremely breathable GORE-TEX fabric shrugs off the wear-and-tear of the trail, while TorsoFlo side zippers allow poncho-style ventilation when body heat needs to escape. These backpacking and hiking jackets work as hard as you do, but pack down tight once the weather breaks. Tested by the IFMGA test team and refined in accordance with their feedback, the Outdoor Research Foray Jacket and Aspire Jacket are ready to repel even the most inhospitable wet weather.

Why would OR feature this Gore-Tex rain jacket in a desert? Don't you have some rain forests up in Oregon or Washington ? Or come over to the East Coast. It rains here all the time.
