Comfortable, Dry fast.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 38/reg

Bought these for work (landscaping) Have worn them every day to work for about a month now. I sweat a lot, temps this summer have been high 80s to high 90s with 60 to 90 % humidity most days. Though i can tell the pants get wet they dry extremely fast, if i take a break or go to lunch, they are usually dry by the time its over. As long as its not a downpour, they still feel comfortable damp, and I cant really tell that they are wet.

Was worried about the durability of these pants due to the lightweight material, but they seem to be holding up quite well so far.

Not sure i would chance a 36, but there is plenty of room in the 38 waist, and the legs have a bit extra material at the bottom, but this doesn't bother me.

Breathable and lightweight

Great pants for any warm weather activity- especially climbing and hiking because of the stretch. Very breathable material that will keep you cool and dry, even on very hot days. Nice pockets, especially the side zip. Only issue I had was with the fit- ordered a size 28 for my 29 waist, and I need to wear these with a belt to keep them up. Other than that, a great pair of pants for summer adventures.

Comfort and function all in one

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34/Reg

Not a lot to add that others haven't already stated. Incredibly comfortable, highly functional, lightweight hiking pants that are wind resistant, water repellant, and highly breathable. Look sharp and feel so comfortable you almost feel like you shouldn't be hiking in them. Own three pairs personally. OR continues to make me a fanboy.

Great review, Jason - thank you!

Are these pants water resistant?

They work

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 36/reg

These are okay, I purchased them for my husband who was set on them and really stoked. When he got them though, he wasn't as stoked. They run huge!! (Which can make you feel good and like you've lost weight I guess) but also makes them hard to size! I would definitely size down though. They are long, baggy and not super flattering.

That being said, they do they job they are made for though and that is wicking away moisture, having great stretch and really comfortable. Great for hiking, climbing, you name it, just run big so size down!
He usually wears a 36x32, and should have sized down to a 34x30 or so.

Hey Janessa, thank you for the feedback on sizing. That hasn't been a issue, so I am wondering if that was a one off, which happens in all production, no matter what brand. The women's versions are killer - you should try some!

Leg Length a Bit Too Short

  • Size Bought: 32/reg

I had to return these pants because they only came down to the top of my ankles. I wear a 32x34 in pants and bought 32 /reg. I love the stretchy material but the fit was a little weird.

Of course, they were short. A 32/reg is 32x32....

Yes, the standar inseam here is 32", however we are looking at adding a long in these which would give us a 34" option also. Thank you for writing,

Lightweight and surprisingly durable!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

For how lightweight these pants are I am super surprised at how durable they've been. I've had a pair for 3 years now and have scraped em against rocks countless times rock climbing without any issues. I've had to warranty a second pair for a seem issues and Outdoor Research replaced it without any questions or headaches. I highly recommend these pants as a lightweight technical do everything pant.

Great pant

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

  • Size Bought: 34 Short

I picked these up based off my success with the Ferrosi jacket during high exertion wintertime activities. I've used these pants with a light baselayer, or by themselves. They're good at shedding light moisture, and have a good fit and finish. Like others have mentioned, the cuffs could be a little less bulky, but I ordered the short to help alleviate bunching.

Good pants

I like most things about these pants. The material is comfortable, flexible, and remarkably durable. I've sunk knee bars in these pants on limestone agujetas without even a visible abrasion (except on my thigh). The construction and fit around the waist is perfect.
What I don't like is how baggy they are around the ankle. I'm not a fan of the cinch because it leaves a lot of billowy material just above the ankle. I normally fold/ roll them up to climb, but more than most pants, these are eager to unroll themselves with any jostling movement eg. hiking, dynamic climbing, punting off your project, etc., so I'm left constantly rolling them back up between burns or on the hike in.
That said, with a different construction around the ankle, these would be my absolute go-to pants for any athletic endeavor.

Light weight, good protection

Really like these pants, feels like a silky and barely noticeable layer of protection. The stretch in the material is awesome and they move with you where ever you go with zero restriction. I got my pants a little too long, that is my bad. Even with the adjustable ankle gusset I still catch them walking pretty frequently. Wore these pants in single degree temps with a pair of long johns and they did great. The windproof really shines when the weather turns nasty. I also wore them in 80°+ temps and they performed equally well. My only gripe is that after wearing these for some time the material is starting to pile around the pockets and front belt loops. The pants also stain pretty easy to food, oil, booze etc. Light weight, you will never know they are there but a bit fragile.

Outdoor Research Ferrosi Pant

Comfortable, stretchy, lightweight. These are great camp pants for warm weather. I like the zippered back and thigh pockets. The cinch cord at the ankle tucks away nicely so it doesn't flop around.

I wear a 33/30 in pants and got these in a 34/short for a loose fit.

Great Pants

I've used these pants for a variety of fall weather activity...from canyoneering in Moab, to rock climbing in eastern Washington to hiking in the Cascades. They are durable, stretch great, and do what a great pair of outdoors pants should...

Super comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These pants are the best, lightweight and comfy. They run large, I usually wear 35/36" waist pants and the 34 fits fine.

Great lightweight outdoor pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great 3-season pants. I purchase the 34/30s which were a little loose in midsection, so you need a belt, but perfect through legs. There pants are very light so you need to layer for colder temperatures. They are perfect for warmer days. Also the material is fairly delicate / burns easily. I was sitting by a campfire and a small ember/spark floated onto my pants. It burned a hole right through them before I could brush it off. I doubt this would've happened with a tougher fabric like denim.

Hey Erik, thank you for the review. There is definitely a trade off when we go with lighter, synthetic pants, and although denim wouldn't have the ember issue that you raise, they also wouldn't be as light, as quick drying, as packable and as stretchy.

Many thanks for writing!

Awesome Pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Outdoor research is known for making quality and thoughtful products, and these pants are no different. I wear them on cool weather hikes, as well as casually. The material is VERY breathable and comfortable. The trade off here is wind resistance. If you are expecting to wear these in a cold weather hiking situation, you can be iced out on a windy summit. Keeping those limitations in mind, these pants rock for fall hiking or climbing, and have been very durable for me thus far. The fit is slimming but not tight. The waist measurements are definitely true to size though, if not a touch large. I have purchased a second pair because these are so comfortable to wear every day as a casual pant.

Thanks so much, Elliot. Much appreciated!

5'8'', 178lbs. 32/reg fits tight.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 32/reg

I am 5'8'' with a 32 inch waist. I purchased the Ferrosi pants in a size 32/reg. The quality of the pants are nice. I really liked them, I just wish they would fit with a little more room. The material is thin and appropriate for hot weather. Unfortunately for me, the pants are a little too tight and the material is a little on the thin side that I can't wear these with out showing the world a perfect outline of my stuff. The pants fit tight through my quads and my butt. Everywhere else they fit fine

Sorry Chris! Have you tried to size up on these?

Performance was Regional

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I loved these pants. They look great with 5.10 Pinks La Sportiva Trangos AND camo Crocs. Plus, my girlfriend loved the way they showed off my "best assets."

Recently purchased for my annual pilgrimage west, they performed well in the mountains: alpine climbs, long glissades, all day trad-ventures, backpacking guiding, and post-climb beer and burger binging (stretchy waistline!).

But after returning to the southeast, I climbed one chimney pitch and when I reached the belay I noticed a sizeable hole in the crotch. My beloved pants were now R-rated. Maybe they're not meant for southern sandstone. Or chimneys.

OR has been wonderful and is exchanging them but, for now, my regional allegiance is to Carharrt.

Talk About Comfort

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 32 regular

These are one of the most comfortable pair of pants I have ever worn. They look great too. I haven't worn them in the wild yet, but I imagine they'll be great. They are lightweight with enough stretch to do every outdoor activity imaginable. I dont expect to overheat in these. I would highly recommend.

Blown Away

I'm absolutely amazed with how well these pants have held up. They're my go to for anything outdoors be it hiking, climbing, kayaking, or bike rides. They're a fantastic light material perfect for warm weather outings. Paired with an insulating baselayer they made a great shell for hiking the Adirondack high peaks in winter. They're stretchy enough for any bouldering problem, they dry quickly if you get caught in a quick shower, and despite constant beatings they refuse to tear. I can't say enough good about these pants!
