They work

They are a little difficult to put on and take off but they work good once on. They have kept rocks, seeds, sand and other debris out of my shoes and off my socks on my last two cross-country hikes. They stay up fine and I have not needed velcro to keep them in place on my shoes.

Broke on first use

The stitching which holds the elastic band broke on first use. The way they stitch the elastic band, after a closer look, is weak just a few threads holding it.

Perfect Minimalst Gaiters for Trail Running

These are perfect for trail running, especially with shoes that have velcro in the back. I find that the mid strap is not needed when the velcro and hook is in use, but I love that the strap is an option. These are tall enough to protect the ankles during trail running but light for fast runs. There is a minimalist brand of gaiters popular with trail runners -- these are like them but more coverage, and more versatile with the strap and adjustment options. My only nitpick would be that the solid black version looks great, but the multi-colored options are not for me.

So far, they are great

Have only run once with these, but it was 7 trail miles in 12" of fresh snow, and they functioned perfectly. I did choose to put them on the shoe first which wasn't really a big deal. Reading about the durability of strap is worrisome but so far they are great. They must fit small because I was gifted these from someone that bought for their hiking boots, I use with runners.

Love!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Quick to put on does exactly what you want. I prefer the shorter ones for sure! Just enough coverage to keep rocks out of the shoes

Could have been great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These almost made it. Compared to the super UL gaiters OR made +5 years ago...these can't compare. Looking at these on their own, I like the ankle elastic. The light colored fabric in the front dirt stained with the first use. The understrap worked well in the scree and rocks, but was almost impossible to get off at the end of the day. Now I know why so many people broke the cording- they had to to get their shoes off. The overdone hook that "locks" onto the cord is totally unnecessary, I had to turn into a contortionist to flip it totally on its side just to unhook it. There is no getting your shoe off until that strap comes off! O/R needs to change the velcro to have the hook side on the fabric! Guy's, with the hook side on the shoe it will fill up with debri and dirt and not function (didn't anyone test this?). I "fixed" my pair. All my shoes have the "soft" patch on them and I have never had a problem that way. The O/R way, everyone has a problem with them. All in All, after having to file down the hooks to make them useable and reversing the velcro these will work just fine, but why should I have to remake them when it would have been so easy to start with?

Strap broke in 1 hour

The straps under shoe broke on first hike with both of the gaiters - weird that this was even developed.

Love these ultra-lite weight gaiters

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Read the reviews and understand how others have issues. I have somewhat of a contrarian view, having worn them on two separate week-long trips on sections of the AT in Georgia and day hikes in Texas. My experience is: 1) strap hooks take a little effort to undo the "fish hook" fastener, gets easier w/ practice 2) I use a micro-carabiner to secure the front of gaiter to boot laces 3) durability has not yet been an issue for me 4) these gaiters keep dirt and debris out of my boots when hiking For a pair of gaiters that weigh in at 2 ounces I'm very satisfied.

Nope

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Broke during 2nd use. Not sure what these are designed for?

Do not buy these!

I agree with all other 1 star comments-OR needs to discontinue. OR did provide a refund and held up to the warranty policy. Broke after 2nd time out. Hooks are extremely difficult, especially after a long hike and you just want to take your shoes off.
